Damn, now that looks sweet! What a difference a paint job makes. That is by far the best looking XD Tiger I've seen since I've been on the board. Great job Spud!! Now if you can get 21st to kick out the paint scheme, I would have no choice but to get it!

G'day Ski

Thanks for your kind comment's, I still have a few minor things to tie off, but now I want to get my hands on a Panther, also let’s hope BBI can answer the 1/18th challenge with a Tiger II in ambush tri-colour.

In 21stCT defence I think a scheme such as this would be quite hard to stencil off for mass style production.

Yet having said that the original winter scheme on my vehicle was very retrained and had some quite subtle hand airbrushed in weathering and low-lighting, which set of the paint job quite nicely.

If not for the fact that all my corrections left me with no other option other than a full repaint, I would have kept the original and just touched the bits 21stCT had missed.

If 21stCT used the same weathering approach as the use on the Winter Tiger for the older tri-colour release, I think it would make a big difference to the look of that scheme.

G'day Mike

Thanks for your comment.

I have been working on replacing the MG mount for the cupola ring, this is not a 100% accurate recreation but more or less the correct size and shape and IMHO far better than that supplied by 21stCT.

Image

It is shown here in place, however thus far I have only had time to paint an initial coat of Panzer Yellow, I will spray some Olive Green at the base of the mount over the weekend.

The orignal pivot point on the MG was removed and a new one installed farther forward. A fairly basic drum mag was constructed, but if I ever get hold of a proper one I intend to replace it. In reality I would like to get hold of a MG34 as this is the correct MG for this vehicle, but down here in Australia getting one of those is quite unlikely.

I have also added crosses to the hull sides and will post pictures once the turret numbers have been adpplied (the decals are currently in the post and winging their way across the Pacific).

G'day Tod

I find the community inspiring, as there is little to no local XD community, mainly due to the fact that the only way to get XD down-under is online, sure we have some Power-Team stuf (marketed as Special Ops as an exclusive to Target), but at present they don’t do WWII and if they did I’m sure they would not make it down here to the Community Sensitive retailers (Community Sensitive is the Politically Correct way to say Politically Correct ) .

Don’t get me wrong I’m sure there is plenty of interest here in Oz but evidently not enough to turn a buck for the PC retailers.

Now that I’ve had my morning rant (yes it’s Saturday morning on my half of the world) here is a pic of the MG mount now painted to match the tank and with some light pastel weathering.

Hope to get my decals early next week then I’ll be able to post another update.

Thankyou to all for your kind comments and interest.

G'day All

When I got home this evening there was an envelope at the door post marked USA..... Decals

So 1.5 hour later here are the results.....

The job is a tad rushed still some more weathering to add.

For this vehicle the crew have decided to muddy up the numbers in an effort to tone them down and make them less likely to observed while they wait in ambush.

Man! Now I need to do some research for markings placement on my soon to be DAK Hanomag and Tiger. I should be able to make my RC Panzer IV a bit more accurate as well. :D
If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Then quit. No use being a damn fool about it.

Thanks for the avatar info!!
:P

Yes we should compile pics of where unit markings go on each tank and vehicle - I can finish my RC PZ IV.

Where can I find the accurate decals for the 1:18 nightfighter?

New Decals

Post by Folkwulfe » Fri Feb 10, 2006 9:39 am

I stumbled across this while researching some info on another model project. This is a company that specializes in dry-transfer decals and make-it-at-home kits. These work very well and, with a little practise, open a broad and inexpensive way to make any markings as long as it's not bigger that 8X10. Check it out here http://www.pulsar.gs/DECALS/index.html .

I also would like to know where I can get 1/18th decals at a reasonable price. I am looking to redo one of my 1/18th Mustangs but cant find anyone who will make 1/18th decals anywhere!

MM,
You can make your own. Buy a sheet of 1/48 or 1/32 scale aftermarket decals in the markings you need. Scan them into your computer, enlarge them, and then print them on blank decal paper you can get from your local hobby shop or Hobby Lobby. I've done this before and it works pretty well. PM if you need more details. Hope this helps.
