I do like TT, and I would like to have one. Not enough to pay what they are going for on ebay, but if I came across one and the price was right I would buy it. I'm not into TT because it is so rare, but because it was a member of the 357th. Like I stated before I have an afinity for aircraft from that fighter group.

Truthfuly since displaying aircraft hurts the collector value, special or limited edition aircraft don't mean much to me as I display all my aircraft.

Now that begs the question. If I hadnt of won one would I spend a big amount of money to get one? The simple answer? No. All I would have had to do is wait for Old Crow from 21st which Historic Aviation will have in about 3 weeks or so. Old Crow and BBD will put an end to my Mustang spree. Then after that its onto the Dauntless and Hellcat. Once I get those birds I might retire from the hobby all together. Thats another story and another topic.

I've been reading the looooong post about the status of this plane over the past year, and I know how you guys waited so patiently for it.

I'm one of those impatient souls, and I can't even begin to imagine what it feels like to wait for a year and a half for such a prize.

I think that the "TT Club" should be special, not really because of TT, but the fact that all of you guys bonded while waiting for so long for your plane.

Which is quite heart-warming and sweet.....

MightMustang to leave this hobby before it matuers would be a big mistake; the detail and the offerings are getting better and better. I also think some day we will see highly detailed version of the mustang, hellcat, Bf Me 109 spitfire, etc, etc that will be made affordable. Please stay with it

actually, why pay evilbay prices? thats what alps printers are for?

add some decal paper and voila, instant Tender Terror and for pennies as opposed to spending several hundred dollars!

The Tender Terror for some will be "over-rated" While for Others it will remain the most sought after production plane in a collection. That is the beauty of it! It's all part of what goes into a high collector piece. For some people on budgets or with no desire to own it from a "paint scheme" point -of view it's nothing more than plastic and paint.

For others (including those people who just paind 400+) They see it as something to own and hold above all other pieces in a collection.

A classic car is just metal and glass right? Well to some. But the fact remains that a particualr classic car is worth 75, 100 grand or what ever. Those willing to pay the price will set the true value and right now the Tender Terror is worth around 400 bucks!

Those that have them can take absolute pride in that fact. For some owners the pridful memory and participation of the event itself has earned them a plane that is worth far more than 400 bucks.

Just all part of the fun in this hobby. I for one, am glad to see a high value collector piece introduced into this hobby!

Maybe the guy is jealous and wants you to sell it to him for $100.00 or so. What ever you do, if you ever sell it, don't let your guard down and sell it to him. Besides, many are willing to pay much more for it. For me, in terms of paint scheme, it is the best one out there because it has the true nose art on it. It may not have the history, but it is very nice.

Yes, to get rid of all the 1:18 B-25s or Flight 19 Avengers, F-4 Phantoms or whatever future release Wal Mart potentially decides not to discount

Then again, after this past Christmas season, Wal Mart - at least those in my area - improved their track record significantly when they discounted the 1:18 Bf-109s, Halftracks, and RC armor that had been clogging up the shelves for months and years, so a contest may not be necessary...

I don't think there will be. I suspect that 21st had a bigger fish on their hands than they thought they would when they actually had to deal with the logistics.

If there is another promotion, it might be for the opportunity to buy something before general release.

The reason why I have thought about retiring from the hobby is because I have pretty much all that I have asked for in 1/18th, except for the Dauntless, Hellcat, Old Crow and BBD. After that I dont know what more I could want because so far I have what I want except for those planes I have mentioned. After that I really dont see anything on the horizon that would be a must have for me. No matter what people say or think about TT, for me when I got one I thought I reached the peak in 1/18th collecting. But the peak really for me is when I get my hands on the Hellcat, my most sought after 1/18th plane. From there, for me, theres really nothing left.

So that being said after I get the 4 planes I mentioned it might very well be the end for me because I have my prized Pontiac I want to start sprucing up for the summer and there are many other things I want to do with my money. Oh I might buy some small scale birds here and there but the 1/18th field for me might well be over. Now this dont mean that its the end for me on this board because I wont leave. I have way too many freinds here and I love the bantering back and fourth with you guys so as far as my leaving this board that wont happen, rest assured on that.

To me about the only way they could've made it "special" was to have done the RB-51 with a detailed Griffon and a figure with the likeness of Steve Hinton...

Special boxes are a thing of the past. Just slam them in any mustang box and they'll still sell. Look at the Tuskegee Airmen P 51. Not the first mention of any kind on the front or back of the box as to what the plane or pilot stood for, not even a sticker on the window. Although 21C did give us a Black pilot "whoopie''.

This thread is an interesting read so I thought i'd throw my two cents in.

First of all, and this is the "if you cant buy it, build it" side of me. How good is the paintjob. Could someone effectively repaint another 21st mustang to look just like the TT. Even to the point wher they could possibly pull one over and sell it on evilbay as a genuineTT? So in other words, the "collectibility" is in the paintscheme alone.

I guess I'm taking the view of "so what?" as well. I guess I am pretty seperated from the issue than most because, well for starters - we dont have walmart in New Zealand....And so the whole act of buying the 190's to get the TT is foreign to me.

But I think (and I dont mean to disrespect anyone - these are just my views on "collectibles"), but I think that the TT could've been something more. Maybe if it was signed by a squadron pilot or something to further carry the "historical" angle of it. Or a small badge embossed with "model number 1 out of 200" or whatever.

Even if 21st acknowledged the fact that people now had a shelf full of 190's by maybe adding "detail" pieces for the 190's as well. So the TT could've come with some ground crew or even a special display stand with some text explaining the history of the plane - as well as some ground crew for the 190's to complete some sort of "dogfight special edition set" (now that I think of it, how about a special edition stand that held the mustang and 190 together).

Anyway.............Sorry tko211 if this sounds like unrealistic whining. This was just my "idealist" viewpoint, with no consideration for costs and what not. I'm sure I would be proud to have the TT parked next to old crow (and BBB!!!!).

...............and yes, those of you who do have the TT...............I'm slightly jealous

The plane did come with a special certificate that you can't get with any of the other planes so that may make it exclusive from the rest.
