Just do the best you can guys. The Idea is to have fun and maybe give the big guys a few ideas. Using a foam core for the fuselage and balsa wood for the wing is probably the easiest way to go. A mosquito would be a great plane to do.

Can we kit bash or do we have to build from scratch?

You can kit bash any plane you want. If you want to use the whole front of a Corsair to represent a bomber engine nacel for example. No problem. Use what ever you need. Just make sure it doesn't look like a P-38 when you finish.
You can still find D-9 Focke Wolfs in the bargin section of some stores.

When looking at a plane to do in 1/18 scale - how do you convert the real life version to 1/18 scale - what's the math??

hoh crap i never even thought of that..

really, if a 1:18 m1 garand is 2 inches long, and a real m1 is like 3 ft, what gives?
i was thinking it was mass to the 18th power or something

Razor, just divide the real measurements by 18. Catman 2 inches multiplied by 18 is 36 inches, or 3 feet.

Ok, I still am not 100% sure I will have enough time to build this thing but here is my project. Maybe if I put this out there it will force me to put my money where my mouth is so here goes.

Statement of intent: I will be entering (hopefully) a 1/18th Messerschmitt BF110.
"you get in a steep dive in this thing and you've got almost no maneuvarabilty at all. You couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with the broad side of another barn"

Good choice Jay. Very straight forward fusalage and wing setup. I think you'll be able to make it.
