This whole time that sucker came apart in the middle? :o
I have been searching for a comparable box to ship one in as I never thought to "break" the fuselage. Kudos to bbi for a very tight seam - has anyone been able to take it apart once it is put together? (The Apache is tough)?

Don't tell me the F-16 breaks in half too....I spent a week looking for a box for that a ways back when I sold mine and still wound up refunding the purchase price when the Jet took a beating in transit (that's right, I wound up with no jet and no money  ).

Don't tell me they changed the box after I finally found a box for the long-box version!! Arrgh. ;)

The box fits the plane nicely, but doesn't look too strong on the sides. Must've been OK though cause the plane looks very good!

The box fits nicely, but it doesn't do that great of a job protecting the paint. Mine has some significant wear to the paint on the exhaust nozzle both top and bottom. I think this may be due to the box being shipped multiple times. The box is pretty beat up.

If I were going to ship in this box I would wrap all the parts in plastic to keep the paint from wearing on the cardborad and stuff the empty spaces with bubble wrap to give the box more integrity by being "full."

a little weird to be sure.
Got the same packaging on a delivery of hornets, mustangs and apaches!

no explanation from BBI except its a limited restock.

Mine was packaged in Brown Toiletpaper. So yeah, I think you can trust our friendly Canuck from the North.

I know I'm very late here, but that boxing job is extremely unique. I wonder what the idea was behind it. VERY interesting!

Just to clarify, does the F-18 Hornet that you received from our friendly Canuck up north come with I pilot?

The plain box F-18 comes with all the accessories pilot, boarding ladder, 3 drop tanks and 4 bombs. The missles are molded into the wingtip.

My bet is that this packaging was done for online retailers. With no shoppers in the store there is no need for an expensive full color window box.

Yeah, but why didn't on-line retailers get it?? I got mine from BCA, but it was the standard window box.

boxes

Post by digger » Wed Mar 08, 2006 8:29 am

I think someone said the stock of LAVs, Apaches and F-18s in the brown boxes was the "leftover" stock, or better put, the end of the run. Who knows, maybe it was not worth running off full color window boxes...

As mentioned, it's great for online stores (who needs a window) and even better for shipping. I said before I was shocked the F-18 came apart in the middle  Great job by bbi of hiding that seam because I had no idea. The new boxes are also SO much better for shipping, I'm sure another factor that makes them perfect for online sales.
You will never see those boxes in the store I don't think.
