F-86
I'm starting to think the "rivets" themselves are a catch 22 in this hobby - they bring out lines and make the planes look cool but then when you see photos of the real birds you see they are barely visible. Look at the front end of the real F-86E above, especialy around the business end of those guns, it looks so much smoother than on the AT model with all the rivets. I guess rivets have to be greater than 1:18 scale in order to even exist on the model so in turn they stand out.
EDIT - I stand corrected. Around the guns there are bolts, not rivets, and although AT added way too many horizontally (I will not count, I won't be that guy), and none vertically on the sides of the panel, you could see the real 86E here with the bolts in plain view if you scroll down a bit:

Thank you Jason.

Observations
I think it admirable that our F-86s will have deployable leading edge slots, just like the real thing.
As for the appearence of the ribbets, I like the technique used on the wing of the BBI, P-51 "Killer Ace". Of all the aircraft I have, this one seems to have the most realistic appearence.

New pictures of the F-86 are up on the Admiral Toys website.

It looks good, but the gauges don't look very acurate. Maybe just a bad picture. The prototype picture looks better with good lighting.

Sweet. It looks right up there with all of the other 1:18 planes. Well done. The instruments are the last things I look at, so I'm not really concerned. That seat will be moved at the earliest opportunity!
Thanks for the find. I am really liking this plane!

Awesome looking plane! This is an amazing "first effort" but then, they are standing on the shoulders of giants. I want to see a better picture of the figure, however. The BCA review says its plain, but it doesn't look that bad. The actual straps are a cool idea.

Beautiful, just beautiful. Very impressive and what makes it even more outstanding is that's it is the very first model offered by Admiral. They definitely have proven they can hang in there with 21st and bbi. I can see them raising the bar of detail in our hobby with future projects. I hope things do very well for them.

Wings Over Miami Airshow
This past weekend we had the "Wings Over Miami" airshow at Tamiami Airport. It was just great, but what made it fantastic for me was the F-86 on display. Later on, it took off and did some mild aerobatics.
It was a beautiful aircraft! I'll be posting some pictures here as soon as I have the time. They also had an Avenger strictly for display, but what a beast.

cockpit detail
You know, Jason said that they kind of goofed off on the pilot, and that they'll paying more attention to the pilots and cockpits in the future, but as I look at that picture of the cockpit, the instrument panel looks great and the strap addition is a sure bonus.
The more I look at the F-86 and the more I hear from Jason, the more impressed I am with him and his company.

Ammo Door Wrong?
I believe AT made the ammo access doors correctly. As you can see by this statement, both airframes were nearly identical. 'The most noticeable change on the F86E, or North American Models NA-170 and NA-172, was the addition of a new "all flying" tail. Externally the "A" and the "E" were similar, but the "E" added a raised fairing at the base of the vertical fin and rudder above the all flying tail.' ..as found at this website http://sabre-pilots.org/classics/v1286e.htm If my sources are correct, the introduction of the 6-3 wing with F-86F-25 and -30 aircraft caused the wing (at the chord root) to be extended 6" and making the leading edge interfere with the ammo door. A "glove" at the root was removed when servicing to clear the door. This was attached by a wire to the front spar so the "glove" just dangled below the wing leading edge while servicing the ammo bays. If this is right, AT got it right because very few "E" models received the 6-3 wing.

Research
Thanks!...As part of my interest in both 1/18th and 1/6th scale, I did alot of research into the E model. The goal is to eventually make a 1/6th scale cockpit area and nose section (like BBI did with the F-15 cockpit) to go with the BBI Bud Mahurin figure I already have. All I have so far is alot of material and drawings of the 1/6th cockpit, but work has been booming and I've had to put it aside for the time being. But the itch is starting again....besides, if you ask my "troops", they'll tell you I'm just full of it!
