YOU HAVE TO MAKE THE WINGS?!?!? Ouch! I guess I'll be waiting
for a long time for someone to make one in 1:18 scale. I can barely paint, let alone build those monster wings from scratch!
(thanks for the info

not just the wings but the tail fin and the horizontal tail too. All they give you are plans and styrofoam blocks that you build around. The blocks are block shape, not airfoil shape so you have to make all the formers and do the skinning if you want the wings/tail.
The fuselage is quite nicely shaped and only requires cutting out where the clear parts go, painting etc. It's the wings/tail that are the killer...otherwise i would have built one by now. I was good to go until i found out about the wings/tail.

The B-25 could be done on 1/18 scale. It would have a wing span of 3.7 feet with an overall length of 2.9 feet. However, if you take these measurements and lay them out on the floor, you have a very massive airplane. That would be equal to the space of two 1/18 WWII fighters or just under 12 square feet. A B-17 would take up about 20 square feet.
Just three of these babies and I'd have to move a car out of the garage.

How about a Dauntless - much smaller - and we already have the avenger comming - makes sense to me.
I think the B-17 is possible and would be nice taking up my garage.

If I'm not mistaken the PBY did sink the most U-Boats of any aircraft during WWII.

Lightning2000, if you look at toy stores and hobby shops in general (at least down here in South Florida), you'll see tons of R/C airplanes and only a few of the static display models.
I believe that the younger kids these days have very little or no interest in collecting and/or putting together any models. On the other hand, the people that grew up with the hobby continue to collect and love static displays, such as ourselves.

I'll throw my vote in for the B-17.
Man, that'd be cool. They could make a whole new series of figures just for the crew.
Revolving bubble turrets would be a must.
Not a bomber but I'd also love to see a C-47 with invasion stripes of course.

My current wish for a bomber in 1:18 - the 21c TBM Avenger
Hopefully, the wait won't be much longer!

I'd really like to see a dauntless as well. But the chance of having a B-25 would be cool as well.

I've been on record here countless times before;
#1 JU88 multiple cammos, mutiple sales
#2 B-17 Memphis Belle
#3 Dauntless Midway markings
Then...
B-25C Doolittle Raider
B-26 Marauder D-Day
A-20 Havoc D-Day and Brit NA
IMHO, biggest winner in sales would be the B17.

Surprising amount of support for a B-17 but the feasability of the 25 makes it so intriguing. It is about 2/3 the size of the 17 and at that big the difference is huge. It would also cost less and in turn sell more...it just seems more realistic. Though Jason did say a 17 was considered...either would be unreal anyway you look at it.

I would put my vote in for a B-17 (I love the look of them) and a Mosquito, but that one I would hope to show up as something like a balsa-wood kit (just to be a little more realistic)

These larger planes would be great playsets - removable gun ports - removable tops with foot pegs on the inside for authentic WWII action.
maybe we will get a 1:18 harry Connick Jr.

A B-17 would be incredible. My favorite aircraft. Even a static diplay of a fuselage with removable panels. I will not hold my breath, though. Now, if someone did one in 1/32..... I would probably have to change message boards!
The Catalina was used extensively as a bomber during the Aleutian Campaign. Great pic here:

and here after it was moved:

I also give a strong endorsement for the Dauntless. It's only natural to include the plane that, arguably, turned the tide in the Pacific.

I like this idea. What a cool playset a B-17 fuselage would be. Then, if people want to be creative, they can build their own wings.
