Small Scale Military Headquarters

You never know until you look at what might go with the DAK PzII. I have had a 21C DAK infantryman on my top shelf of unopened figs for years and just opened it. The jacket is a little light for me but the fig is not bad at all and it has a field cap made out of plastic but it looks great. I'll paint the inverted V on the field cap (which is now white for infantry) pink for armor, wrap a scarf around his face with goggles and I have a nice tanker.

Great idea, I managed to pick a couple of those up last year off ebay, seems one's going to be promoted to tank commander , thanks for the tip

Talked to AG recently, the Panzer II should be here the middle of this month, who all here is getting one?, can't wait, hope its not like the Sherman, they should have called it a Kit as much parts had to be assembled

Good news, I signed up for one!

The DML PzII is not a kit, it only needs about 5 min to assemble. It is considered a "full build".

The PzII kit is over 700 pieces of agravation to assemble (for guys with ten thumbs like me), then paint.

The full built is well worth the few hundred in price over the kit price. I'm looking forward to the DAK version.

Wel,well, well, just had to say that , did'nt you just buy a Panzer II kit, seems the guy who can rebuild 1:1 vehicles is getting beat up by the small stuff, just joking, don't come looking for me

All joking aside TTT has some real experience in the large and small scale stuff, just got to gig him now and then

Depending on price (always connected with the price), I have bought two PzII kits and sold both after looking through the box of a zillion parts and getting the heebie jeebies about the thought of tying up my workbench for a year of assembly and painting.

I enjoy my completed 1/18 and 1/6 models, happened again today as I had the enthralled audience of a lady friends.

As with 25 years experience with 1/1 military vehicles, restoring and maintaining, as I have said before, I am a tinkerer, not a mechanic, I changed tires, changed fenders and other body parts, changed drive shafts, even whole front ends or rears and painted the heck out of vehicles. After the first few years of relying on professional mechanics for tune ups, etc, my two boys took over the technical tune ups, they are super mechanics.

Now, with this heat, to get one of them up in my attic to find me a huge box for my built PzII to think about selling it to make room for the new PzII. That will not be easy with one here last week to do my shrub work and my big guy here today to help me out with a virus I picked up this week. Besides being a mechanic he is a great PC guy. Couldn't ask him to bust his buns on my PC and they get up in the attic in 104 degree heat.

No 1/6 sites have mentioning exact shipping dates and noone is mentioning actually receiving this new prebuild.

DML has discussed a Series 2 of the gray PZ II kit. Prices have gone down for the S2 kit, despite most of the PZ II full build being sold out as well as the Series 1 kit being sold out. Both the prebuild and kit are available but still at premium prices of around $600 for the prebuild and $400+ for the kit.

Be patient grasshopper..

Commanders hatch is a tight fit but it came partially up with a few taps and with a razor knife, it came up. Suprised to find it has working hinges because of the tight fit. A little sanding is needed if you want the hatch to go up and down easily.

A 1/6 guy said the tracks on his tank were short 2 links, but a call to his dealer who contaced DML and the replacement tracks are on the way. Talk about customer service, this in two days. Great..

Same guy said the engine hatches came up fairly easilier but without an engine, I can't see opening the engine hatches.

Guess what.... One side of my tracks is short.... you quessed it. Missing two links. Track assemble does got fit over the wheels.

Not a happy camper.

........ same here ... seems to be a common mfg. assembly goof w/ this model. Other than that , the model is great overall except for the weak hinges on the front & rear fenders and had to re-fit the exhaust. + my main commanders hatch was put on wrong so I rearranged it so that the hatch now opens correctly (as you would be the tank commander inside facing forward) to the right.

* Lovely model though. The paint helps to accentuate the detail of it which is amazing compared to their 1st Pz. II "B" (grey) edition , which I also have.

......... funny how none of this happened (track link wise) w/ the other one .

I thought they were short too, but if you pull them taught, they do connect, its just a lot tighter than the 1/6 Sherman where you have extra links. There are no extras here, they put just enought to pull tight and connect.

......... nope , done tried that Andy & no cigar. ... Oh well , DML will send us some parts considering this being brand spankin' new . Also considering that w/ what I've personally experienced w/ them in the past , they're Customer Service is excellent , so I'm not the least bit worried. Magnificent model

I agree with Mitch, no pulling the tracks will allow me to fit the one track.

Same with my muffler, has to be refitted, easy peasy.

A call to Dragon CS in City of Industry will help us out.

The first PzII had some parts to fit that would only fit for me by filing the edges. The same parts on this tank have been assembled for us. DML is learning from mistakes.

As for the commanders hatch. Being hinged from the side is correct for any but the first models of this Ausf. C tank.

I love this tank. Warts in all.

Sorry to hear you guys had missing links. Mine went together well, and was happy not to require putting together individual links like the Sherman .

I took that to mean you are saying that the hatch should be hinged directly in front of the command ALA the early T-34, which I don't think is correct..

I am saying that the DML tank we have now is hinged correctly as it stands now.

I'm always ready to argue but we can't both be on the same side. In this case we both are, ole buddy.

... what da' heck does that mean ? ... hinged to the front or the side ? ... I've seen photos of both and the majority of them shows the main hatch opening to the starboard side. Only one I could dig up shows it opening forward. You can have yours stock and I'll show mine the other way. I don't think it really makes much of a big difference but it seems that if it is going to open in the forward position , w/ that stopper thingy (supplied w/ the tank as a hatch accessory item) in front of it so the hatch won't go all the way down (lay flat) then it would be in the way so it made more sense to me to have it open to the side w/ an uninterrupted view for the commander like most other tanks of that time.

What I was trying to say was in relation to a comment talking about this model on the SAG site.

So, I think we are both correct.

......... fair enough Charlie. I wasn't trying to start anything , just showing some different examples & points of view.

* Don't mean to sound contradictory but I will have to agree though that the main hatch is already hinged correctly in the forward position for an early war Ausf. C and all this fuss over it was unnecessary.
