I have a couple of the BBI Corsair/Hellcat pilots that I got when places like Badcat were selling them for $2 a piece. I'm counting on those working just fine...

This. Plenty of those floating around and they are great figures. I'm sure the secondary market will open up nicely if the Dauntless comes out and has no crew.

I notice the second pics as well, that I take a guess the pilot might be the BBI hellcat pilot.

I found this old thread. I hope Plasticboy can update the status of pilots for the Dauntless.

My BBI ones are working pretty well. It seems the 21c Corsair pilots and Avenger pilots can work too. Only thing with all three types is you have to at least remove the lower legs (calf and foot section) to get them to fit properly.

In the Dauntless cockpit, Merit put everything where it should be, including the rudder pedals. Most other 1:18 models, while they had the rudder pedals, moved them back slightly to allow a figure to fit. In reality, the pilot and crew would just bunch up inside the tight confines of the cockpit, but as 1:18 figures do not have the full range of articulation nor cloth uniforms, fitting them is a challenge...

If Plasticboy or Merit decides to make crew figures, they will likely need to be static (without much articulation), bent in the proper seated shape, and thin or small enough to fit in the cockpit.

To get an idea of what I mean, look at the 21c 32x pilot figures that came with some of their later aircraft (P-51B & D, Bf-109, FW-190, Corsair, Stuka, Macchi, Zero, etc.) The pilots were all scale, but sculpted to fit and sit correctly in the cockpit and even given limited articulation like turning heads and movable arms.

I've got my SBD a week ago, it's a great quality warbird in 1/18 scale that the interior detail really impressive though. We had been discuss making pilot issue before SBD appear, now Coreyeagle48 use Avanger pilot and gunner sitting in SBD that it looks great.
I don't think people need static pilot and gunner for SBD, I also have my Avenger pilot and gunner change to SBD, they looks brilliant!
