Two weeks ago I went into a hobby shop looking for 1/48 model kits, but as I was leaving the shop, I noticed a window display with various scale die-cast aircraft, one of which was the 1/18 Starfighter...I have never seen 1/18 in any regular model shop over here before, and it was the only item on display without a price tag, so I went back to ask how much they wanted for it only to be told in no uncertain terms that it wasn't for sale it was only for window dressing (every other item in the window was priced) - althought they would probably take an offer on it one day...

My wife went in and tried to buy it for me the following Monday, to be met with an even more abrupt version of the above. So that was that.

Last Saturday I went into a different store 50 miles North of where we live, and they also had the Starfighter.., on display and no price tag...Here we go again I thought, So went up to the counter ready for more bad news, but this time the man was actually happy to sell it to me, although I had to take that particular model as it was the only one they had been sent, and didn't want to take it to pieces again, so I had to walk back accross the city centre to the car park with 1/2 the model sticking out of a plastic bag.
Once I actually got it home, and was able to get a proper look at it, I think it does look better than the previous version, I certainly think the cockpit and seat look better, and just glad I was actually able to bag one!!

Yes, already knew about that one, it's been on there for a couple of weeks, but after my experience with the first shop, once I found the second shop had one and they were prepared to sell it, the extra tenner was worth it just to have the model in my collection. The way things had been going, if I hadn't bought it there and then, the E-Bay one would have been sold about a second before I went to press the Buy It Now button.

:) Added bonus, by buying from a brick-n-motar, the owners may purchase other 1:18 in the future.

It is a pain to get parts of the F-104 taken apart ... not F-14 pain and no way as crazy as the Stuka, but still a pain.
