I think you are absolutely correct. How can they produce a finished model and omit a key part of the plane like that. Possibly they will make right on this and quickly produce one to make up for this oversight. I really think for $60.00 this should have been done on the aircraft without having to put a decal.

I think this is quite simply a licensing issue, not an oversight.

not a liscensing issue.....they were in the kit. Just an oversight or possibly a cost cutting measure. Either way, very poor. I could have lived without the 'remove before flight' tag, but that is very historically significant. Will have to go after market i suppose....very doubtful Pegasus will offer to make good.

shame, shame.

So the decals were in the kit, but not on the finished model?

Seems like a ridiculous oversight.

Glamorous Glennis is an integral part of the plane, and to not have it on the finished model, is a shocking oversight.

This is why I love this Forum! Thanks to guys like MikeyT, many of us, who might need a little guidance, can get stuff done! Thanks to MikeyT's suggestion, I took the canopy off (and I mean it popped right off), and placed a pilot inside. Now, I chose the 21C F86 pilot, mainly because I thought it would look really good. Has anyone ever noticed how much the F86 pilot is like the old "Gumby" character? All arms and legs, but somehow I made it fit, without having to remove any appendeges! Here's a look:

Although I'm a little dissapointed there was no G.G. decal on the prebuilt version, for $60 plus $9.99 shipping, I'm really pretty happy with this bird & thank Badcat for fast shipping, etc.
It may be the only really new prebuilt 1/18 aircraft this year, and it really is a well done model, so at this point :D
As for copywright issues, I guess we'll have to leave that to the legal folks - Too bad though, this model really does honor Chuck Yeager and the marvelous feat he accomplished by being the first to break the sound barrier. I guess it must be the principal of the thing, because the estate couldn't get much money out of the relatively few models that will be produced.

whoever is running the yeager estate is an a-hole and a fool and probably never had a woman in his life. Jackson: maybe you can make some available to the board on the sly? Call them something else.

I very disappointed with this model as well. My kit arrived in the mail yesterday from BadCat. I bought one of these kits so my son could have his first build. It appears to be pretty simple and basic with large enough pieces so it's easy enough to build. However the decal sheet that came with this kit has an obvious scissor cut removing the Glamorous Glennis decal. Then I noticed on the box (this is the kit, mind you) and all over the instruction sheet, everywhere Yeager's name was mentioned it was black sharpied out. I called badcat asap. At first they acted surprised that it wasn't in the kit set versus the finished model. Then they felt that it was normal and understandable since Pegasus is in legal trouble with Chuck. I asked them what they would do to remedy my disappointment. They said there was nothing they could do about it. I told them that was unacceptable. There is and never was a disclaimer on their website for the kit therefore I bought with the understanding that GG would be in the box. They changed their tune to then tell me they will call me back with a solution. I suggested that since I figure there's no way they can decals from Pegasus then perhaps they could pay Jackson for decals but not sell the decals but rather include them for free as seperate shipment to cover thei rears. They said nothing and repeated they would call me back. No call back yet.

I'm suprised Pegasus isn't in really deep doo doo with Boeing. Boeing owns Bell aircraft and all licenses along with that. They don't mention Bell Aicraft anywhere on the box or instructions, I guess that was there way of skirting Boeing.

It seems odd from looking at AllGo's passion wagon on their website, they mentioned nothing about North American Aircraft....guess that might have been there way of avoiding Boeing as well

I wish I could remember where I read that Yeager wanted every copyright penny possible for anything connected to his name, but this doesn't surprise me.

I'm surprised Pegasus didn't square the copyright issue from the beginning.

"I'm surprised Pegasus didn't square the copyright issue from the beginning."

Agreed. I mean, how much could Yeager's estate ask for? So Pegasus adds a dollar or two to the cost of the kit to cover Yeager's fee. If they ask for too much the kit doesn't get made and Yeager makes nothing, so that will keep greed supressed.

Distressing to hear that even the kits don't have decals now....but you're right, they can be made and distributed for free and there is nothing Yeager's estate can do about it.

I even have a problem with Yeager being able to get money in this way. At the time when he flew the X-1, he was working for the USAAF, and both he and the project were funded by governtment money and hence tax payers' money. Any markings he might put on the plane still belong to the projects funder....afterall "Glamourous Glennis" would have little meaning or value for royalties if it weren't put on the actual plane, would it. And Yeager didn't pay for the plane, he was paid to fly it. So if anyone should get royalties, it should be the US Governtment, which should in turn put it towards the US national debt.

But really, it's an historical event and artifact and should be public domain.

All this has put a bad taste in my mouth about Chuck Yeager....kind of a shame to taint his memory in this way.

Oh well, such is greed.
