I'm fairly new to your work and judging from the wheels alone, it looks like it's gonna be a good one. What material do you use? Is it sturdy and durable and won't get brittle over time?
This is a good question. The resin I use does not get brittle. At least it has not in the 2 years I have been using it.
I also had a customer had one of my full built Sdkfz 222 blow off his outside deck and crashed on the floor. It hit so hard that it bent the brass barrel on the 20 mm gun. A few small pieces flew off but basicly was unharmed.
That speaks volumes !!!!
The brittle resin tends to be the quick set. You can demould that stuff in about 15 mins.
I stopped using that because it sets TOOOOOO FAST.
The way I cast my stuff I use wires and tubes in it for reinforcement or hinges . I just need a lot more time to use it. In each one of my barrels I will either use a brass or styreen tube for strength. Also to combat warpage.
So I use a resin that they say sets in 30 mins. I usually wait about an hr before I demould. The slower the resin sets the stronger it is.
When the temp drops around 30 to 40 degrees the resin gets brittle. Then it is time to break out the heaters and I even soak the pour bottles in warm water.
The biggest problem with resin is heat . Heat will make a piece warp quickly. Espiecially if it is not laying flat or you have something resting on top.
I am now using a beige/bone colored resin. Most of all after market resin kits use this color. That is why I switched to it.
But to tell you the truth I like the white resin better that I used to use.
When I get done with the batch I have I will switch back to the white.
Unless you guys prefer the beige/ bone colored resin.
Let me know.
I hope this answered your question.
