The way things have been, 21st C would release a re-paint 109 (in Desert) soon after I bought the dang thing.
I just

Well I guess I have decided to throw my hat in the ring, lets see how I do here. You know I do own EVERY 1:18 scale plane produced by 21st!

We will have to see how badly I decide I need to add this one?
Great auction though! I didn't think we would ever see our friend part with this piece?

Does that thing have accurate tail markings? I can't really see but if it did that would be awesome.

Well that was fun!.... but I think it is quickly reaching the point of crazy! Best of luck everyone, I think I will try the route of begging one of the two others away from 21st directly

Then there will be 2 of them in private collections!

That was a great auction. I bet the seller is thankful for the bidding war that ensued, tko if you hadn't decided to jump back in I bet it wouldn't have brought near what it did.

Who bought it? A board member?
I have a one-off 21st century plane BTW ,a FW 190 with the worst paint job ever, and a good old glue spill to boot; any bids ? hehe

well, the paint scheme is inaccurate for a 109E but i'm sure we'll see something quite similar on the 109G some day.
Quite an auction......nice to see 21c rare birds getting such attention; shows the high interest level in the scale as a whole. I wonder if the winner is planning on doing a custom repaint job on it.

Forget the repaint - he'll probably set it up in some sort of altar in his living room and worship it as a member of the collectors pantheon of "Most Expensive XD Pieces"
I really need to lay off the Classical Roman history for awhile...

Kurt-
That was you I was bidding against?

We both got rocked by MP-40! That was kinda fun. I gotta be honest though...560 is a ton of cash for that plane. It is a one of a kind for sure but in all honesty it is still a prototype and not a real production plane in production paint. Last night It hit me that I could just hire Roy Sutherland on the side to make me another one for 300 or so!

just kidding, I don't think I have that kind of pull! What a fun auction!

$560 is a lot of cash to put in one plane. For that kind of money I'll paint my own!

Yeah that does have to be a record! I honestly hope that they don't do the E in that scheme as a regular release, as stated it's correct for the G which would be great. Curious to see if this bird would ever pop up again on ebay or maybe show up at a show or something...pretty cool though.

I thought this topic deserved a little more research so here was what I got out of 21st today. The prototype scheme that was sold is indeed one of 3 prototypes. 21st has the other 2 in the "vault" that third got away. The truth is this paint scheme is not accurate or even real. in fact the E model didn't have that scheme at all according to 21st. Thus the concept was abandoned in favor of more historically accurate schemes. You can bet that this plane will never see mass production ever. But.... I am told that the current G model could be corrected to represent an accurate scheme that would be similar but historically accurate in the future. I was told that the nose blisters and main gear would have to be corrected. Indeed it is a strange tale of a missing prototype that has now found a third home... -thought you guys might like the full story.
