Ski:

Never crossed paths with Digger, but then how would we know? He could have stood next to me in the aisle pretending he's not really looking at toys. I'm not shy, I push my cart piled with toys and just push the crumbsnatchers out of the way. The last time I found a 1/6 CC on clearance some little jerk was there ahead of me and I convinced his Mommy that what he really wants is a G.I. Joe futuristic truck. Then I grabbed the CC as I heard his Mommy in the next aisle telling the kid "See, the nice man was helping you, now get you truck and let's leave, my programs are almost on"..... hehehehehe

At least when you have a live meeting of a club, you meet live people and you see them for years after at shows & always say howdy. This board is like a worldwide club with members that have names that mean something only to each of us and we have no bodies and no faces.

The TRU in Jersey City is across the bay from EWR. I have two TRU's on Staten Island and the JC store simply put my two TRU's to shame.

I probably won't get back there before next week at the earliest. I should think the CC's left will be gone by then but I will look. I have plans for mine at the moment.

Come to think of it, I do look like this...... so if you see me, say hello.

Although this is OT, you bring up an interesting point about our relations here, TTT. Most of us have never met one another in person and probably never will, yet after being around on GP's board for a year, and then onto this one with many of the old members, its almost like you get to know one another. We all have a general idea of what our interests are, what our basic backgrounds are and so on. Every member's writing style, as well as what they include in their messages, differs and tends to create a certain style and identity that is individual to that particular member. Behind these identities, which may or may not reflect our actual selves, we all come together, interact, and in a sense form a community. And all that occurs without us ever actually coming together or actually interacting or forming a physical community. The novelty of the detached social situations created by electronic media is really very compelling. I would be curious to hear what a psychologist or even a social/cultural anthropologist would say about such things.

Again, sorry to get OT, but the moment called for the rant!

Tman:
All I have to say is: Audie Murphy. Online, a decent guy interested in the same things are we are, instead of the thieving rat bast--d he turned out to be.

How do you know I don't take offense to what you say and am right now outside your door with an axe?? How do you know my basesemt isn't loaded with victums?? While I can't do it, I'm sure some of us are geeks and could find out who we are all are and where we live.

What I am saying is we are not known entities to each other, and given the world wide association we have we share information and interests. We have a better "club" than one that meets once a month face to face with maybe 20 or 30 local guys.

But trust? That's different, especially after Murphy the only guys I trust are the only two guys I either have met face to face or who gave me his address and he's within driving distance for me and my son's and our axes if I get ticked off.

I second that!

I belong to TWO 1/6 clubs here in the DC area. Neither one can muster more than 5-6 guys at a given time and each usually meets only once every other month. Admittedly, I've missed the last several meetings of BOTH of them, but that's what happens when life gets in the way of your hobbies.

Going to an actual meeting for me involves about two hours of driving for a two or three hour meeting and finding a four or five hour block of free time on a weekend can be tough sometimes.

As it is, I can sit down and read the posts on this (and many other boards) during my lunch break, or in the evenings while watching TV. I can even work on a 1/18 project AND check the board out, since I have a small work table next to my computer desk.

Don't get me wrong. I really enjoy going to my local meetings. I've bought alot of things based on actually seeing and handling them at a meeting, I've been inspired to tackle BIG projects (like a 1/6 Adventure Team Yellow Littlebird) because of meetings, and I both given and gotten GREAT trade deals. I really like seeing other people's collections and showing mine off as well.

This board is like a virtual meeting for me. Yes, the payoff is smaller, but so is the investment in time. BUT, one thing the board provides is a larger community to share ideas. For example, this board has 370 registered users from around the world. When they provide ideas, it benefits all of us. For example, I would have never learned about paper models from my local club, and it's something I plan to turn them onto at the next meeting.

What's up with the JC TRU. I was just there and picked up an BBI Apache for $14.98. Is that the regular price? Price check machine only showed the one price of $14.98??

Still a treasure hunt and a ton of Black Hawks at $59.00 and Bulldogs at $39.00.

!! The Bbi Apache was originally the same $59.99 as the blackhawks. I picked up my Apache for $20.00ish.

Boy, this thread turned out to be quite interesting, just from the resulting discussion.

Meeting digger, Dirk and tko211 at the Toy Fair 2005 was a real treat. It showed that real people were behind those words I read on the board and read here today. All of them turned out to be great guys and it was wierd to actually talk to a face about XD and collecting in general. Our backrounds couldn't be more different, but yet this interest in 1/18 pieces of plastic. Very intriguing. I wouldn't of traded that experience for anything.....

Audie Murphy simply represents a craptacular minority who should be skinned alive.......

Saw 1 bbi Apache for $27 at the TRU in Elmira today. Also several new FOV 1/32 pieces, including a very nice camo LAV.

TRU in Binghamton had several bbi Shermans plus 2 Mustangs.

Heads Up

Post by WGP Klaus » Sun Apr 17, 2005 5:36 am

Just a heads up re: Apaches

I had given up hope of finding Apaches in the stores as they disappeared quickly when the price hit $25.00, but my hope was restored yesterday when I found two TRU stores(Gaith. and Rockville Md) that had apparently re-stocked the Apaches. The price however was oddly enough, raised to $27.99, an increase of $3.00? lol oh well, I just wanted to put this out there in the event other stores had found old stock or restocked this item.

get 'em while you can, even at $28.00, thats one hell of a price!
