The issue of spare parts is not as simple as it would appear to most people.
It works like this...there is a production run on the item and all of it parts and the product is assembled and then if there is any parts left over they become available for spares.
It is not as simple as just running each piece as the tooling moulds contain many parts and the missile may well be included with the fuselage tool or some other major part. So to run a few missiles can be a very expensive operation and cause a lot of left over other parts.

So it is not that bbi does not wish to even sell you that parts...the simple fact is that there are no spares to sell you. And to be able to provide them means a very expensive production run.

Hope this clears it up for you."

thanks for the insight...

thanks for the good insight there. It would be interesting to watch a toy factory in action and learn more about the challenges and difficulties and of course successes in the production process. it would be rad if they offered tours...might be like visiting the Boeing Factory! (but probably not logistically possible)

to mig 29 K

Post by supersonicfifi » Fri Mar 24, 2006 2:01 am

to mig 29 K :you are gifted !!!!!!!! i can't believe this !!!! i want to send you my F 18 to apply the same good work !!!!! there is a question about the front gear doors : did you change them too? mine F 18 has 3 front gears door : 2 in front exactly the same shape ( L shaped) and the rear covering. Your model seem to have the correct doors : one to the left front and one to the right back (+ the same correct rear covering). I was wondering if it was a different serie or another of your great customs ????
Well done !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS : i put my F 18 to the wall (no more space in my bedroom ) between my skis (i am a skier !) and it looks so great i was hardly able to sleep ! my two roomates (i am sharing an apprtement ) are thinking i am nuts !!!!!!!!!!!!

PS : i ve just bought the 3 Osprey's Volume about the different units in Operation Iraqi Freedom and theses are FANTASTICS

Landing Gear doors...

Post by MiG29K » Fri Mar 24, 2006 8:43 am

Supersonic....you really caught on well. The doors are custom and I think it was the second thing I fixed after the antennas. The front doors had the extension cut off and a right-side full sized door was made. The rear doors. I basically split the rear door in half and used it to make the corrected doors. I built the hinge system myself. I had inquired to certain "people" at a particular company about the refueling probe. I would like to build a retractable one but I needed to ask a few questions about the actual one first. Well Mirage 2000....we shall see right? So many people...so few 1:18 aircraft!

8) i really appreciate this forum i fell a little bit less " the only 33 years old nuts " playing with big plane !!!!! ( i really have big arms now after hand flyng my new F 18 !!!!!) plus i find this cool to exchange idea and talking about our passion ! . My F 18 is so beutiful i can't imagine do all the changes "MIG 29 K " has done ( i am too afraid to screw the whole thing !!!) maybe some antennaes will be done in the Future ? so for all the great gifted customizer do not hesitate to post alll your picture on the new therad ! my next wish is to have some modern weapons to hang from this beauty (like an amraam + hawk pod on teh shoulders weapon points and some new laser guided weapons !) i saw some intersting configurations on OSPREY's book about the F 18 in OIF with the above mentionned weapons and only two tanks : but one middle and only one under ONE wing - the other wing as two weapon stations !!!! too keep the balance !!! they call it the hard wing concept - i think to minimize drag versus fuel consumption !!!!! )

This is a good thread with a lot of insight, I also have contacted Bbi and asked for extra ordnance for the F-18 to be made.

You will not be disappointed with the F-18. The only problem now is the fact that you have to get the F-16 when it becomes available again.

Oh-yeah, now your main demise is waiting for other modern jets to come out. At least there are three companies that can make them now. However, it will be a long wait. I think both Admiral toys and BBI are planning somthing new this year. I just want an F-14 or F-15.

MiG29K, are you gong to fix up the F-16? I know that it would be nice after you get your hands on it to fix all of the flaws.

i bought the F-18 the minute it went on pre-order from badcat, i had always wanted a 1:18th scale jet, but this was also what brought me into 1:18th scale everything

i picked up the F-16 the minute it went on preorder, and also
the Jolly Rogers F-18 which i have no taken out of the box
only becuase i have no room to display, but it is def one of
my favorites of all time.

i will pick up all modern jets, minus vietnam, i got the 104 becuase
i had it as a 1:72 scale one as a kid, but vietnam doesnt hold much
interest to me, becuase i am young, even though i love WW2, my passion
ultimatley exsists with the Desert Storm+ era of military

i hope someone has somthing planned, becuase i want it, but still every time i see that Hornet or Falcon sitting on my shelf i get a chill in my spine, even after a year of ownership its still something of Awe to me.

I got one in perfect shape for $40. It was worth every cent of that discount price and would have been so at full retail as well :)

Its one of the largest 1:18 planes, and though the BBI F-16 has slightly better detailing, the F-18 looks great.

I always like dealing with TNS. They are cheaper than anybody else and I haven't had any issues with them whatsoever.

Are they going to upgrade the "Golden Dragon" F-18 with more detail?

Most likely not. It still packs alot of detail, though!
