Walmart Recon

Post by zonetoys » Thu Jul 14, 2005 8:55 pm

Well Razor, I didn't take the Pics at Wally World. Just couldn't leave without 'em. After a phone call, a buddy of mine at the Sixth Division had to have a couple too! He loves Jeeps and Half Tracks! So the cashier looked at me kinda funny  , but my 13 year old son was with me so I blamed it on him! Lady behind me in line wanted to know if it was his Birthday? Yeh, thats it, worked for me! :)

Aerguson, I haven't opened them yet but, they seem to be diecast except for the Hanomag which is a little lighter, plastic maybe?

And Digger, the Tanker appears to be a regular Tanker and not a Marine with Camo, anyway! Correction! My son said it is Pvt. "Dizzy" Hagenshire! I think he is correct!

Post by digger » Thu Jul 14, 2005 9:07 pm

Thanks! I realize now that it's Dizzy!
It's a shame the COED isn't the S2 we saw....but still a steal at $23. 5 years later and the price is less

That is cool that the pack-in figure of the halftracks are the paras. I have questions.

Are the all the new stuff diecast?

Also when you do open the halftracks, can you tell me if the figures have the gear that they came with carded?

And does the halftracks come with the stuff that they original came with?

How many different version of the vehicles have been found? Like M-41, halftracks, etc.

I believe the winter M-41 was found at Wal-mart, but what figure did it come with?

I guess the Japanese came sooner than planned. I thought you would only be able to get them a CC, and now here they are in Wal-mart. Too cool.

vehicles are nice but....

Post by 75th Ranger » Thu Jul 14, 2005 10:52 pm

hey guys,
vehicles are nice but, some parts either come broken or are easily broken....
The tracks in the US halftrack usually come broken, so i got to go to Wally to get me a new issue Halftrack.

good thing, is that the vehicles bring so cool accessories. the coed tank even brings an extra tank crewman headgear.
and the halftrack brings mines and weapons, plus some baggage stuff...

anyways keep an eye for your new vehicles because they have some construction mistakes and brake easily, not all but it seems to me that is a mass production + lower cost defect.
but for $23 you can ask for more.
take care,

Walmart Recon

Post by zonetoys » Fri Jul 15, 2005 8:16 am

Momaw, I will take some more pictures and post this weekend. I will try to answer some of your questions too!

Getting ready to drive outside my immediate area today, so I will do another Walmart recon. Maybe I'll get lucky and find a Dodge 1 1/2 ton truck! It's been alluding me for some time! :?

I'm ashamed of myself, but I'm afraid all of this news goaded me into going to Walmart, and worse yet, I bought product...

At the Walmart I visited, there were:
- 1:18 vehicles (OD Bulldog, Hanomag, COED Sherman, OD Halftrack) (20+)
- 1:18 Imperial Japanese figures ( 6 different types ) (24+)
- 1:50(?) scale vehicles, including a new (to me) series: Jeep, Schwimmwagen(sp?), US Amphibious Vehicle, Kubelwagen, and German Command Car
- 1:32 Series 5 Germans and Series II British (lots)
- 1:32 model kits of 8-ton mover and two new kits (in different style packaging) of the Sherman and the Panzer IV
- 1:6 R/C Humvees (3)

I picked up a complete set of Imperial Japanese, a COED Sherman, a Hanomag, the Series 5 Germans, and the Series II British. I couldn't bring myself to buy another Bulldog or US Halftrack, even at $22.79, especially since they were the same OD as the plastic ones I already have.

I was tempted by the new 1:50 vehicles, but as I held the 4 in my hand, I couldn't help but note that combined, these tiny vehicles cost more than a 1:18 vehicle. Talk about your skewed expectations! The 1:18 vehicles are a ridiculous value at $22.79, and now that makes me look asconce at $5.95 for a tiny jeep. :!: Plus, I just can't get excited about these little personnel carriers. Guess I'll have my military hardware geek credentials revoked.

jealous

Post by digger » Fri Jul 15, 2005 10:13 am

I am very jealous....
Btw, was this a store that previously got the limited distribution stuff? I'm trying to find out if any given WM could have this stuff?

I saw that 1:50 stuff made by New Millenium also - but as you said it can't compete with the 1:18 in terms of value (or even 32x for that matter).

New Vehicles are Plastic ...

Post by Slobodon.Ginfizz » Fri Jul 15, 2005 10:48 am

I saw a question, and I thought I'd clarify that the new 1:18 scale vehicles are plastic, not diecast. At least the Sherman I just pulled out of the box is; I'd be surprised if the others weren't as well.

Answering another question, the Walmart I found my stuff at did NOT have any of the limited edition stuff we've been hearing about for the last few months. In fact, it was empty of 21st Century stuff altogether just a few months ago.

Just got back from doing some recon and I found the COED Sherman, olive drab M41 Walker with new figure, and both the new US and German Halftracks. No figures in 1/18th though. I also found 5 different 32X playsets and both the German series 5 and British series 2 32x troop sets.

Well, it's official. The COED Sherman, HT's and M-41 landed in Delaware! My wife reported that the Camden Walmart in Dover has all of the new stuff short of the Japanese. She also mentioned that they restocked all of the 1:32 stuff as well, especially the playsets. I so can't wait for the 104's and avengers to show themselves eventually.

I love my wife :D

WM in Vacaville, CA had the new M-41's, the COED Sherman and the US and German halftracks along with a bunch of restocked BOB figures and Marines. No sight of the Japanese troops though.

Great find!

Post by 75th Ranger » Sun Jul 17, 2005 11:41 pm

I went to another local walmart mart last night and to my surprise, i found out that they had a bunch of XD stuff....they had some of the german planes, the new vehicles, the japanesse figures, the 1/6 hummer, and a new bunch of 1/6 scale weapon sets...really cool!..modern and i think WWII.
the only thing is that everything was scattered along different aisles in the toy section....they should just make a 21st section!!!!
by the way, no marines or bob figures!
i really want those and the modern eastern warriors!
if anyone know about those showing in your local wally's let me know.
take care.
