A Little Dab L Do Ya

3 bucks for the bottle of paint
3 bucks for the bag of sponges
post-its - go figure!

This is so easy!!!
And fun too!!!!

Remember that she will look very naked when all the spots are gone.

Then we will decide how to really weather her.

Estimated time to spot removal - one hour.

I'll try to post some pics of the process this week.

In the mean time - do not spend any money till we see the end result!!!

Best regards!

Dean

sounds good Dean....very intersted in seeing the results. This is the simplest idea yet for sure. I guess one could dab a little less paint on to leave just a hint of spot behind, which would act as weathering.

TKO...
Great job on the repaint!
You're going to make a lot of people happy.

Any thoughts on doing fictional paint schemes? ...just an idea.
You'd probably get top-dollar for it.

i doctared my scheme up a little bit, it turned out pretty cool, i am partial of the tomcatters scheme but didn't want to do a total repaint so i added a black nose cone and fuel tanks and re-did the tails, this is what it looks like so far. i'm still debating how to get rid of those damn spots.

Got mine today

I freakin' love it! Gave it a go with the GoJo on one of the fuel tanks to see how much work was involved...yea...I'm just going to have to live with the spots. Either I wasn't rubbing hard enough (which I didn't want to do), or it just didn't work, either way I'm happy.

My only complaint is the slightest movement will cause main gears tiny little aft pin to come out. Ar!

That is cool that you got yours.

Did you use the GoJo that had Pumice in it? Keep in mind, there are 4 different types of GoJo. It has to have Pumice to take out the paint.

Thanks to all!

Wow, this is why I love this board. Some really great collective wisdom to be had. As someone here pointed out, the "F-14's problems are only skin-deep and the skin can changed". Phew!

TKO - top notch work! And that is spectacular that you're making your services available to others for a reasonable fee.

P47Fan - thanks for the great explanation! Sounds pretty straightforward for somebody with an airbrush and a little bit of experience. If only I had either! Though maybe now is the time to invest in an airbrush.

Dean - your idea is very intriguing for novices like myself! I would love to see pics if/when you attempt this.

Whoever came up with the GoJoe idea - thanks for that too. That certainly has other applications beyond this particular problem if nothing else.

Not sure, it came in an orange shampoo looking bottle. GoJo in there is white, with little 'beads' or 'grains'

That the right stuff?

If it came in a Shampoo typy bottle, then it is more likely that it is lotion or hand cleaner.

It comes in a tub. As long as it has Pumice in the description it will work. GoJo is found at O'Reilly Auto Parts and other stuff works like the Orange stuff with Pumice in it at AutoZone.

No wonder it really wasn't doing anything...running to autozone right now!

Thanks!

I have decided, I am going to do mine in an XP-14F Skystriker scheme.

I would like to do the Original:

I also think that an updated Lo-Vis scheme would be cool as well:

Speaking of Skystriker...
Has anyone taken a picture of one next to JSI's F-14?

There is a comparison in the GI Joe section on the "OFF TOPIC" board.

Anyway, here you go:

Here are some comparison shots of the JSI 1:18 F-14A Tomcat and the Hasbro G.I. Joe XP-14F Skystriker:

Here is my repaint. It looks pretty new in these pics but it really looks sharp in persons. I used Gloss Gull Grey Model master paints. The aircraft has areas of gloss and areas without gloss. I didn't not cover the whole aircraft just worked around and made it flow. It really came out nice.

Anyway here it is side byside next to the spottedone. I will add a little bit more weathering but it really does not need much.

If you have an airbrush and can tape. I would airbrush it. It really was not that hard. It took about 3 hours. I just use that blue tape that we all use for painting our houses. It worked great! I had two thin hobby tapes that were used for the red line on the fuselage and a few other areas. It took about two bottles of Gull grey, I re-did the black and the tan on the nose cone. I need to hand brush a few metal parts and thats it. I was so happy I put it on my son ceiling. Anyway it needs a few touch ups here and the and I need to weather the wing leading edges a bit. Some people get carried away with weathering. Heres a few picks of work in progress.

Thanks so much for posting the pic!

This method is so simple!!!

The Model Master Flat FS36440 Gull Grey is a dead on match
and you can dab out the spots completely or hide them so that
just a bit shows through.

Just finished one of the rear elevators and it is awesome!!!!
