MD is probably Monkey Depot - which I'm sure irked a number of e-tailers a few months ago with their hugely popular blowout sale.

FM is most likely Flying Mule. They also deal in aviation models and have an incredible selection of largely 1:72 diecast planes and armor. Many more than Badcat and priced the same or sometimes cheaper. To make matters worse, they are also located in Badcat's neck of the woods in northern California.

Flying Mule used to deal in 1:18 and had great deals, but they had a spat with 21c and stopped carrying 1:18 scale all together. They would most likely not get the JSI F-14 anyways.

Not sure what retailer HS is.

TMANTHEGREAT:

When the existence of JSI and the F-14 were confirmed, I called Flyingmule and asked if they would carry JSI models. The Flyingmule rep said that negotiations were underway and to expect "an announcement in several weeks". That indicated that they would probably carry JSI. I waited a couple of months and never heard anything, so I called Flyingmule back and was told they were not carrying JSI.
I don't know why Flyingmule won't carry JSI, so I called Aikens and asked Sally about the F-14 and if free shipping was included. She said she'd ask her husband about it. I called back a few days later and she said the free shipping was included, but only for a limited time---so I started this thread. I hope everyone took advantage of the free shipping offer before it expired.

I got my name down with Aikens right after you posted the thread. Thanks! I hope it still goes through. I spoke with Sally and she put my name down on a preorder list to contact when the F-14s came in. I called back a month later and my name was on the list.

The Flying Mule got into a squabble with 21c for some reason (same thing happened to Badcat as well once upon a time). TFM stopped carrying all 21c items after that plus any other 1:18 they had in stock. Quite frankly, as they deal with mostly 1:72 items, the 1:18 goods may have simply gotten in the way and may not have sold as well as TFM hoped, thus they decided not to carry them.

Im guessing HS is Historic Sales. I have talk to a sales rep there and they will be carrying the JSI 1/18 F-14 Jolly Rogers

I was kind of wondering how big the box will be that the F-14 model will come in? Even with the wings folded, it will still be a rather wide model. And do you guys think it will come with the vertical stabs installed, or will we put those on?

Badcat lists the aircraft's dimensions as being approximately 25.3 inches with the wings swept and the fuselage as 41.2 inches long when fully assembled...

I recall seeing somewhere (but cannot remember where I saw it) that the box would be somewhere in the ballpark of 22"x33"x10". I expect that there will have to be some assembly of the plane.

well the bbi f-18 front section come off. I bought one that came in a really small box and the box came from bbi.

Yes, and 21c fit the F-104 into their standard-sized box by designing it to break down into several sections.

I figure JSI will do something like that. The whole part of the F-14 fuselage forward of the intakes (the nose forward wheel bay and cockpit) could easily be a seperate piece that snaps to the rest of the plane. The tails will also likely be seperate pieces, as could the horizontal stabilizers. Then you have all the ordinance, and small parts like the antennas. JSI could potentially make the wings seperate pieces that you have to assemble, but that can get difficult to do with the design of the F-14 in general.

Speaking of the wings, I wonder if JSI has designed them to be able to open/close together. That way, if you push on the right wing for example, the left wing will also move. This is easily done with an internal interlocking gear and many F-14 models and toys have that feature. It would make sense (to me) to include that feature

Does anyone know where to get the VF-84 pilot figures(with yellow helmet) to fit this beutiful bird or the JSI will release F-14 pilot figure crews later?

JSI is working on all new 1/18 scale pilot figures to go with their aricraft.

They will probably be sold as a seperate package for the F-14 since it will be released without them. Maybe they will do a redemption type deal for those that purchase the F-14 without them.

BIRDDOG:

Is it 100% confirmed that JSI will release VF-84 pilots?
If so, when?
(Also, I hope the pilots have the VF-84 Jolly Rogers helmets like BBI had on its 1/32 VF-84 Jolly Rogers F-4 Phantom pilots).

I think there is a real good chance that pilot figures will happen... :D

I don't know how authentic to a squadron they would be though.
