I agree. Japanese planes do sell - especially the Zero. Its a recognizable aircraft and is one of those very significant WWII planes (along with the P-51, Hellcat, Corsair, P-40, P-47, P-38, Spitfire, Hurricane, ME-109, FW-190, ME-262 and Stuka.) Why it didn't appear 3-4 years ago is surprising, but now one's on the way!
I'm sure the 21c example will be excellent, but they must be kicking themselves given that BBI got the scoop on them!

Soooo Close!!
On the BCT website:
October 12, 2005--Q. How does one eat an elephant? A. One bite at a time. We have now begun processing the HUGE volume of 1:18 Zero Preorders and prepping ship tags. The A6M2s are currently awaiting discharge from US Customs and will be delivered shortly thereafter. Upon arrival, the BCAT crew will unload the container, inventory the goods, then bag and tag the aircraft for same day dispatch to their new owners. As always, customers can lend a big hand during this frenetic period by not calling in "order status" inquiries or just checking-in to say "howdy", as these calls divert labor away from the big task at hand. We expect to have all aircraft shipped by Wednesday or so of next week. Please turn off spam filters if you want to receive tracking info. Tracking numbers will become active/valid once the package is loaded on Fedex and UPS vehicles.
I feel so cold.....

Ah, wonderful! I haven't recieved my tracking number yet, but I'm using the USPS shipping option. I called BCA a week or so ago to check on my preorder and I have a number, so its only a matter of time. It seems like the FedEx shipping options go first, then the USPS and other options. Either way, the Zero is coming!!
I have to hand it to BCT. They really go out of their way to keep you updated! I mean, they already have a new heading today about the Zero. That goes SO far to keep us excited types happy. Thanks BCT for looking out for your customers. It keeps us coming back......

Badcat had nothing to do with the Zero being made. BBI decided to make a Zero and Badcat got the North American exclusive for the grey scheme. The grey scheme is also going to be sold in other parts of the world but only BCT can sell it in North America.
BCT doesn't have the buying power to cause a whole new aircraft (or tank) to be made. Only the likes of WM or TRU can do that and even then they are only a good chunk of planned retail sales...not all of it.
Break even on these things is probably at the very least 10,000 units, more likely closer to 20,000 units.

zero
I think there are some people who would disagree with that. I know you are in touch with Mike but that sounds hard to believe. We need to give BCA some credit on this one. Believe what you will.Badcat had nothing to do with the Zero being made
heh.....i like the picture of the truck load of Zeros. IF the whole truck is full of them i reckon that's 1000 Zeros. And the preorder sold out fairly quickly. I would say it's been as popular as any other preorder.
So, to those that said the Zero wouldnt' sell well......what say you now?
(maybe they should listen to us more often.. )

The photo of the truck full of Zeros on BCT's website is quite the scene. My question is this: Is that whole container full of just Zeros?? You figure that each of those boxes have 2 Zeros in them. SO, if the container is full of Zeros, then did BCT pre-sell that many planes or do you think they will become available once they fill the backorders? That is a lot of $$$$ sitting in that truck!

Re: zero
I agree. We need to give Bad Cat credit here. Who do you think went to BBI and pleeded the need for the Zero to be done? I'm sure that BBI saw the want for one, but I'm also sure that Bad Cat had a good persuasion on them. Now Bad Cat may not be able to have a "new aircraft" done on their own, but I have a high belief that it is companies like them that can help change the minds of the manufacturers like BBI and 21st. They're the ones moving the products and on the front lines so to speak.digger wrote:I think there are some people who would disagree with that. cool pic
No, they did not sell all their planes - when the pre-orders ship the rest will be for sale, like the P-51s. If they sold all their planes then there would be another market with a higher price that they would be cut out of.
It is a cool pic, and gives you an idea of what role BCA can play in a plane getting done. PS - I say more than 1000 if it's all Zeros.

What?
Bad Cat Toys buys/sells more 1:18 aircraft than TRU, according to my sources within the industry.--RobBadcat had nothing to do with the Zero being made. Kudos to Badcat for the bringing us the zero now! I dont care if they had anything to do with them being produced or not, all I know is Badcat is delivering them now, along with the new Mustangs, 21st's European exclusives and a whole lot more! Nobody on the net, or brick and mortar ,has done as much for our hobby to get us the items quickly as Badcat, so consider me a lifelong customer Rob!
