Pic, I'd take 3 if not 4 for $40 if you had the map cases/boxes as part of the kit.

That and a headlight blackout cover would be cool.

Nothing to report today but I should be able to finish the prototype on Friday.

I have been reading a little on our subject.The BMW R-75. It is actuly supposed to have the hole by the back wheel axel. The bikes were made that way. It should have acap on it but it is correct.

I also found out that these things had the nick name green elephant. The bike HAD A REVERSE GEAR. It also had gearring so when you hooked up the side car the wheel on the side car had traction. Kind of a posi-traction deal.
They made THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF THEM.

There are many minor things that are wrong with the bike. But that is to be expected because the bike was designed to be played with.

The biggest error I see is the muffler location. It should be moved up above the axel in a kind of a " T " deal.

The other one is the hand break handles. THEY ARE MADE BACKWARDS. THE HINDGE SHOULD BE ON THE HANDLE BAR ENDS. Not like a modern day set up.

I am going to do some MINOR work on the bike to try and bring it up to speed a little. Like thin out the forks and shave the front fender a tad. I think that this will change the whole look and it is something that you guys could do.

Not to mention the Bike may be more accurate to the actual bikes in the movie than to the bikes of history. Those IJ bikes I'm sure were remakes, not restorations or anything, so this probably was made more for those.

I'm still down for 1 PH. I wish I could afford more, as I really would love 2 for desert tan Raiders versions and 1 for an "accurate enough" green-grey one for my 21st figures. Hell, just making a better figure to ride it would be a challenge.

Well the prototype build is done. The hardest thing to make was the light bulbs on the sidecar fender. I thined out the fork on the master and cut about 1/8th of an inch off the bottom of the front wheel fender. It looks better but I think that if I cut another 1/8th it may get me were I want to go . Check it out.

Here is the ammo box for the Mg-34

Here is a untouched bike next to the slightly customized one.

Here is the finished prototype. The spare seat is a study in copromise. But I think it looks close.

I forgot to mention. I went ahead and made the articulating pintel for the Mg-34. It swings left to right up and down and slides back and forth on the bar.

I will start making the moulds this weekend and by the middel of next week I will be taking orders

How does it look ?

"How does it look?" Pickel, this custom is fantastic! Your attention to detail is top notch. I like the MG 34 mount, nicely made as is the rest of the sidecar.
I think I'm going to need a few of these, I've found 7 of my 8 Indy bikes. I can just picture a dio with a bunch of these rolling down the road, that would be sick..........

Wow,

There are a couple of guys who want a new bike. This project kind of started to go go along with the existing Indy bike.

I guess I can step up the project if there is more interest.

I can maybe make the correct muffler and cast a hole body /frame so you guys will not have to hallow it out. And also do something with those chunky looking forks.

Anybody else interested in me doing this ?

Also I have an old WW2 magazine that shows the BMW-75 and sidecar on the front cover. It has the soft panier box ( the large sized one ) on the front sides of the sidecar. This could be easy to duplicate 4 of them if you want to go that way or you can mix and match when I get my ammo can box done.

What do you all think about that ?

Also for you guys who are in the know. Did these bikes come painted panzer grey or field gray ?
I also would assume that they were painted your basic DAK yellow. Some pics prove this. What about the grey ?

Pickel, according to the Tamiya instruction sheet for the B.M.W. R/75 (in 1:35 scale)...
" Motorcycles and their sidecars which showed activity in Europe, especially on the Eastern Front, were painted field gray or panzer gray.
While those used by the Africa Korpe were dark yellow. At that time there were no camouflaged motorcycles, but after 1943 German vehicles came to be painted mainly in dark yellow. A small number of motorcycles wore camouflage painting".
Well if this intel is correct....... pick a date pre '43 or post '43 and paint accordingly.

Well guys the moulds are almost made !!! I have poured a few cars and they look great. I will finish the wheel moulds tomorrow and they will be done.

I decided to make the car axels reinforced with brass tubing. I think that if I made them with pure resin after a while they mave have sagged under the weight.

I have not finished the ammo boxes yet. All I need to do if put a handel on the master and it will be done then I need to cast them.

I have seen some pics of the bike and side car with no boxes/bags on them. Some with bags/boxes on the front and not the back an vice versa. Also 2 on the front of the car and 2 on the rear of the bike.

This project was a little more work than I thought it would be. THAT IS ALWAYS THE CASE.

So I think that I am good with the $40 with the side car.

The kit will consist of ;

4 wheels
sidecar
mg-34 w/ pintel.

Now like Grunt has said some of you guys want the ammo boxes.There will have to be 4 made for a full set.

I was thinking as an incentive if you buy 2 or more sidecars I will throw in the ammo boxes . If not they will be $7- $10 extra.

How does that sound ?
