My local Hobbytown USA store got in about 4 of the BBI "Red Devils" F-18s  I know the plane is old news, but I thought it was an exclusive? Nevertheless, it is a very nice scheme :D

They were at the regular $90 price tag. Further, I know for certain it was the VMFA-232 plane, so no doubts there  There's no telling whether or not they'll come out at TRU. It seems like the previous TRU release of the F-18 was very limited...

The "Red Devils" scheme was supposedly an exclusive for BCA, which in a way, makes it strange that they were at my local Hobbytown USA store. Then again, three years ago, BCA got the 21c Boyington Corsair exclusive, yet months later, a few went out to select small retailers, including my local Hobbytown store. It may be the same deal with the Red Devils F-18. (I know the employee that handles the small-scale military products the store carries has direct contact with 21c and BBI.) However, if more show up at online retailers (besides BCA) or even at TRU, then we'll know its a general release

new modern guys

Post by digger » Mon Jun 11, 2007 6:10 am

It seems they are due around the end of the month at Target but they have not been spotted yet. Let's hope there's plenty when they arrive and that we buy 'em all so Target asks for more in time for Xmas! :D

People hoping to stock up on the Red Devil though might have to wait for TRU or small retailers to come through because I thought Mike said modern only at Target in this batch.

F-16 or F-18 or BOTH?

Post by Snake512 » Tue Jun 12, 2007 1:30 pm

Hey there,

New to the forum and new to the world of 1:18 scale, having recently got my feet wet with the Daisy June (looks wonderful assembled, I was always fond of the F4U and its unique profile) and am contemplating adding a modern bird.

How do people feel about BBI's F-16 and F-18 models? I've done some reading in other threads today and found some info about them but would like opinions on which piece is the fave here. Are there QA/QC issues? Details? Accuracy?

Any info is appreciated, thanks in advance!

Welcome aboard!

Personally I am a big fan of bbi's Hornet and Viper. (I have 2 f-16's and 7 f-18's) I highly recommend them. They both have their minor inaccuracies, but show me a 1/18 scale aircraft that doesn't.

BTW, hope you have lots of extra space... these jets are big. The F/A-18 is about 37" long.

Todat at TRU...

Post by Snake512 » Mon Jun 18, 2007 10:50 am

TRU in Times Sq. NYC had a couple of the P51s with the Donald Duck nose art today, 39.99. There's a card showing the price for the plane with the display (they always have extra F4Us sitting there) since last week, I think. But today was the first day I saw the Mustang they're advertising. They don't get very many of them, but they do sell the ones they get very quickly.

Good to have you aboard Snake. I was at Times Sq. TRU today myself. Not the first time I actually saw the new Mustangs there but you're right they do sell quick. I think a lot of tourists come through that location so we get a great international crowd who is hapy to get the stuff.

If there is ever anything you want to see first hand from the last few years just drop me a PM..it is likely in my apartment.

Thanks digger!

That TRU is indeed packed with tourists and I've seen people drooling over the steadily-available F4U's from time to time.

Do you own the BBI 1:18 Falcon or Hornet? I'm leaning toward the F18 right now but I'd be buying it sight-unseen online (can't seem to find any stores in the city that sell this stuff!), so I wanted to get impressions from an actual owner.

I have it and it is awesome. Have 3 actually - Marauders, Golden Dragon and Blue Angels, all still in box. Traded away my loose one and don't have the space to break open a new one yet but it really displays well. I like it more than the F-16 which is a bit over-scale.
On a side note, a few years ago I saw the F-18s at Times Sq. TRU for under $30!

Agreed it is a great plane! Mine is unboxed, hanging from my ceiling in all its glory! I got mine in mint condition from a fellow boardmember for $40 total. It was certainly well worth that price

The one christmas the hornets made an appearance on shelves ('04??) I snagged three of them and I believe the price was $29.99 clearance, and this was literally before xmas, no more than a week or two if memory serves me correct. Up untill about a year ago, I never had trouble getting 21st (when they had been available prior to their reintroduction) and BBi on clearance, but I've noticed the past year or so, the 1:18 dry up alot quicker, both in TRU and Wallyworld.

I think Target will sell the 4 modern figures online. 4 for $20.
The paras - I think 2 modern and 2 WWII - will be 4 for $25. I don't see the vehicles (yet).

On a side note it hurts that the helos and M1 are at 50% what they were and the humvee is the exact same price.

Still no bbi sightings at any of my local Targets, but I guess since we among the first to find 21st at TRU, I can't exactly complain too much. Still, hope it shows up soon--I am itching for a Blackhawk!
