Who wants an F4F Wildcat?

With the new BBI F6F Hellcat about to be released, I am really thinking about how nice a 1/18th scale Wildcat would be. I know the landing gear would be tricky, but it sure would look great parked next to the BBI Corsair and Hellcat. :D :D

I really like the Wildcat and it would be small so I might be able to find a place for it. 8)

A Wildcat is a must! The plane was the mainstay fighter for the US Navy and Marine Corps in the early years of the pacific and participated in numerous key battles - the Coral Sea, Midway, Guadalcanal, and so on :wink:

Much agreed. The Allied Pacific collection would be incomplete without it.

From talking to vendors, I think the companies are afraid that someone else already has one ready to roll so they are not doing it. So, it may be a situation where no one has one done out of fear of competition. Yarghhh!

I too would love to have a Wildcat, but do you think it would be as popular/recognizable as say the Hellcat or Avenger or Zero? I think that plays a big role in what the manufacturers decide to produce. Not to mention the complex landing gear construction, which I would think could add to the price point of the model.

I'm not wanting to poop on anyones parade, but I don't like getting excited about something that I would consider a long shot. :(

(However, If someone were to make one I would gladly eat my words and love every minute of it! Bring on the Wildcat!)

I have always thought the Wildcat was more popular/recognizable then the Hellcat. At least among modelers and collectors.

Yes it is the most popular/recognizable among modelers and collectors.
And I dont think it would be hard to make the landing gear.

There is the thought about plug in landing gear and then panels to put on to simulate the retracted position instead of making honest to goodness retracts, should it prove too tedious.

Well, it has wings, so it meets my first criteria, and I would buy one if available.

But I don't really want one. I think it is stupid ugly, and when set next to a Hellcat would prove just how undesireable it really is. I would probably feel the same way when I set my Hellcat next to my Bearcat. But that's a wholenuther wish list!!!

Lets all just settle on the Tomcat as the next of the 'Cats to be made.

Amen to that....... the only thing that would make the Hellcat better would be a Tomcat sitting next to it, in VF-31 markings of course. :mrgreen:

I would love a Wildcat it would go well with the F4U's, Avenger, Dauntless, and f6's I plan on having.

Just an FYI the Wildcat looks a lot like a Hellcat, and when the Hellcats were first introduced many Japanese pilots mistook it for a Wildcat until they got shot from the sky. All Grumann aircraft of that era look remarkably similar, take a look at an Avenger next to a Hellcat, or Wildcat.
