Finished model Vs. Kit in 1/18 scale.
I guess I think too much.
I know that Admiral came out with an F-86 with no decals and painted silver. I think that this was a big hit. We were able to put our oun markings on them and do an easy custom job.
Would it be more appealing to have our beloved 1/18 scale in the finished form so we can addmire the beauty or would an oppiton of plain unpainted be more to our liking?
This poll if for both AIRCRAFT AND AFV collectors.

Having the diff options of decals would be nice, however I believe that most would prefer that all the work was already done for them. I myself would love too choose the decals, but if we mess em up, like most of us do, then where does that leave us.

i prefer prebuilt....decals don't look as nice as the printed on markings a prebuilt comes with.
I don't see alot of point to selling unpainted kits really. It's just as easy to repaint a prebuilt model.
Maybe prebuilts coming with optional decals would be nice..
Having said that a few of the 32x planes are now offered in unbuilt and unpainted kit form.....i don't know how sales are for them, but they seemed to be popular.
Don't see the point of them, myself..

I voted for pre-built and pre-painted, as well, mainly because I still have the same unfinished A-10 kit that I have been working on intermittently for 7 years (which would be fine if it was a 1/6 scale scratch-built or something, but a cheap 1/48 kit?). Not to mention several unbuilt Ferrari kits that have been collecting dust for a decade. Like Aferg said--the pre-painted ones are just as easy to repaint and customize. But if I had to build and paint them all, 1/18 my air force would number maybe 1 or 2, not 18.
That being said, kits could be cool, if they were done with multiple marking options and maybe alternative assembly options (optional ordinance load-out, or combat damaged panels, for example).

I agree I hate makeing models, but don't mind doing small custom jobs on them.EnemyAce wrote:I think one of, if not the big reason why we're attracted to these toys is precisely because we don't like fiddling around building models, and, not surprisingly, this poll shows that out.
