Future 1/18 Birds in 1:1 Scale

Greetings

The National Air and Space Museum has several of our future 1/18 scale birds on display. Except that they are 1:1 scale. Enjoy these photos of some of the real birds that will soon grace us in the 1/18 scale. These planes are all in the new building near Dulles Airport

Me too, I would love that, or a flat silver paint scheme to go along with the soviet Mig 15

Here is a shot of the P-61 Black Widow located in theSteven F. Udvar-Hazy museum.

The P-61 in Reading has really been a slow go. I know for the longest time there was a big arguement between the museum and the National Air and Space Museum as the MAAM needed an engine the Air and Space Museum had and wouldn't offer anything for trade to get it. NASM of course said no way and there was a bump in the road for awhile. I guess someone at MAAM finally realized they needed to trade something, and now they have the engine they need.

They have had to redo everything on the aircraft step by step. It seems the MAAM bit off a little more than they could chew with the project. It's taking much longer than expected and according to my sources, nowhere near finished. Also according to my sources, when they removed the plane from the jungle, a tree fell on it which ruined some of the aircraft and that now has to be rebuilt.

Last year at World War II weekend the airplane was on its gear, but was nowhere near finished. I think they really wanted to at least get it to that point because people were really starting to wonder what was going on with the project and where the money was going that was being donated to it. I hope they will have it finished within the next five years, though no one really knows when it will be done.

Thanks for the update on the P-61

I was wondering about her.My father was up there a few years ago and made a few photos of it, but I hadn't heard any progress reports in awhile. Thanks for posting the pic as well ,it's nice to see that there are still a few of these around. The only other Black Widow I had seen was at Dayton several,several years ago.
