Which P-47 Bubbletop is the one to get???

Post by longrifle » Tue Feb 01, 2005 12:02 pm

I am new here and this is my first posting. I am looking to get one of the new bubbletop P-47 thunderbolts and wanted to know from you all which is the best of the lot. I heard as far as construction everything is the same but the paint jobs on some are not the greatest.

Secondly, I want to give on of my P-47's a RAF paint scheme like they used in Burma/India. So to do this I wouldnt feel as bad as messing up a P-47 with a crappy paint schem on it to begin with, so which one should I go with in that regard?

All 3 of the BT p-47s have accurate paint schemes so it is a matter of taste, and among taste there should be no dispute.

As for your custom, I would buy an original p-47 cheap, but that's partially out of fear of what my "work" would look like on the plane. No sense in paying the premium for the BT unless you really want that version for your custom.

Welcome & good luck!

Although I really like the "Eileen" (checkerboard nose) scheme, the paint quality, as mentioned in previous posts, is POOR due to overall bad QA at the factory. I mean, in addition to the poor paint quality, they even stenciled Maj. Eggleston's name on the canopy rail (sorry factory folks, wrong plane).

Repaint Eileen.

I haven't purchased this plane and don't have any strong desire to do so for a variety of reasons, however, if I was to get one, I'd go for the Eagleston version with the yellow cowling.
