Civil Aviation
What civil aviation aircraft would you like to see?
Personally, I am down for a GeeBee and Piper Cub

Cesna 172 in white with a blue or red trim - can't get any more basic than that
Seriously, though, there are some aircraft that though they have found life as civilian planes, were once used as observation aircraft by the military. Perhaps that would be a compromise

I would not hesitate. The Golden Age of Racing, The Schneider Cup, and the oh so many others, all lead to aviation as we know it. I would gladly go for any of it that becomes available. Sadly, I also am aware that it won't happen. Sniff, sniff, whine, whine.DocTodd wrote:Civil aviation has it's place but not in this hobby. Who knows someone may buy them.
There's no doubt people have seen the good old Cessna 172.
Todd
The C-172 also deserves major kodos for all it as done. Leading to GA as we know it is a big deal.

I know this is a totally unrealistic suggestion, but I would kill for a bright yellow Grumman Ag-Cat biplane.

Now I have a machine gun (SPACE GUN!). Ho ho ho.
Racing?
How about a Corsair and a Mustang in post-war racing markings? Unlimited class! I think they even had a P-38 or two.

My votes for civil aviation:
1. 1978 Cessna 172 Skylane. Royal blue and Columbia blue striping, with blue interior. My grandfather owned one of these almost all my childhood through college and this is the plane with which I learned to fly.
2. Mooney M20J. My grandpa also had one of these for a short while. Very fun to fly.
3. For the most beautiful civil aircraft ever produced - the 1930's Lockheed Electra 12 Junior. Art Deco styling in an aircraft. Can't get better than that.
4. Beech 17 Staggerwing - awesome looking airplane.
5. Howard Hughes H-1 Racer. Amazing airplane for its time. That man was genius. Weird....but genius.
Although way too large for 1/18 scale - Lockheed Constellation. Very nice in 1/32

Many schemes too D-Day etc.
As for GA, I'd like a Globe Swift.
One because they were built right down the road, and because I have one in the hanger.
Racers, a Wedell-Williams "Miss Patterson" which my uncle Palmer Peterson tuned.

I gotta chime in for a DC-3. Think of all the mileage they coulf get. That plane flew everywhere and for everyone, and practically forever... not only all the WWII applications ( American, British, Russian etc) but Korean war, Air-America/ CIA, plus all the different commercial airlines, and even smoke-jumpers. The list goes on forever. With all the 1/18 paratroops out there, wouldn't it be nice to give them some transportation?
Gimme a DC-3... or for you Brits, make that a Dakota!

We only lost our DC-3 airliners up here a coupla years ago and that was due to post 9/11 requirements. There were too few DC-3's still flying passengers to justify the expense of new assault proof doors to the cockpit.
