I swore off planes, but for $35 clearance (one of literally over a dozen Avengers) I had to pick one up... slick plane, I just hope I can hang this thing somewhere out of my way.

Just received my Flight 19 Avenger this morning. Man! This plane looks sharp! Even without an alien.

Just had a thought. Since there was some discussion of a USS Ranger based Operation Torch Dauntless scheme, then we would need a companion USS Ranger Avenger to go with it.

And a Wildcat.

Good question. I'm on the fence about this one...... some good detail pics might sway me in favor of the new scheme. Not that I don't like it, I just really like the Atlantic scheme so much that I have three of them. I need to be picky about new paint schemes as Avengers tend to take up a little space.

The Atlantic scheme is my favorite so far. I do have some questions:

Has any of the big three (BBI,21st,AT) released a plane that would have been on a Atlantic carrier with the Avenger?

Were they supported by Corsairs?

Since the pilots were in the atlantic, would they also where a jacket similar to the P38 pilot?

My guess is that since Taylor is the flight leader...he's the one everyone is going to want. As an incentive to get you to buy other planes, besides Taylor, they have thrown in the alien. I can only afford to get one plane, not 5, so I would want Taylor's plane. Does anyone know if these are going to show at Wal Mart. I have not seen one avenger at a Wal Mart.

Already having one of the early atlantic avengers in all of it's imperfect glory, I got a wee bit of a surprise with what I saw on a shelf today..

In the limited edition box at a local store was a lost squadron avenger, #28, for 64.00; there might have initially been several more from the looks of the endcap, but the possible repercussions of leaving it there paled in comparison to those likely to erupt from the wife and the ensuing credit card fiscal responsibilty smackdown.

For MK:

The Avengers flew with their little brothers the Wildcats as "hunter-killer" 2-plane teams from escort carriers. These Wildcats (mostly FM-2's at this point) were in use long after their Pacific brethren were replaced by the Hellcats.

At some point during the Atlantic ASW war, the U-boats changed defensive tactics and stayed on the surface to fight it out with their deck guns. My guess is that the tactics change was because the air-dropped depth charges and homing torpedos were very effective. The Wildcats would strafe to suppress AA fire and the Avenger would follow with an ordnance drop, also while strafing with all available guns and HVAR rockets. Quite a few Wildcats and Avengers fell to the German AA fire in the course the Atlantic war.

The TBM's and FM-2's were Grumman products produced by General Motors. So think of that while you are driving your Chevy.

I just saw MK's question about the pilot. I think the crew in the Atlantic Avenger is correct for cooler weather. Certainly not the rolled-up sleeves of some of the 21C Corsairs. If I recall correctly, in even colder weather, Navy pilots would've donned a leather jacket which had a dark fur collar that looked different from the wool or all leather collars of the USAAF.

No, nobody's come out with a Wildcat (yet). Since 21C has tackled the Grumman wing fold, I think they may the best bet to try a Wildcat. Also BBI, but we haven't actually experienced their wing fold attempt with the Hellcat. The Wildcat's landing gear will be a real bear to engineer, though. Whoever does a Wildcat may have to provide a gear-up and gear-down alternative with exchangable wheels/gear, as opposed to having truly retractable gear.

In fact I think any large 1:18 aircrft should use metal. exp B-25 - F-14,ect

Awesome! I am hoping my Hobbytown will carry them, but I can see it being a while. Their new restock included a bunch of last year's new releases

Then again, they do have "Atlantic" Avengers, Russian Migs, and Stuka zu Fusses. I think I'll have a talk with the employee that orders the 21c stuff to see if he can get those in

I picked up the #28 avenger this afternoon and it's a good 'un.

Now for a hard dose of reality; the box had a price in the mid 70.00s instead of 64.00. I had to step back from the ridiculously hot young female cashier and find a manager to whine to. The conversation quickly turned to collecting XD, personal friendships with members of the Thunderbirds team, and a strictly guided tour of a SAC installation amongst others. Anyway, I figured 10-12.00 was an acceptable loss for 20 minutes of good conversation- I could have put on a good tantrum about the price, but what the heck.
