Hypothesis needed: new BBI Kiowa and Humvee

Post by mwanz » Fri Jan 21, 2005 6:42 pm

Okay, we've got some smart folks here at the sshq... Give me your best shot.

Why would Toys R Us (at least in Tuscon and West Coast TRUS) stock the new 1:18 vehicles --which I know we have all been obsessing with lately--without any valid (eg, in stock) preorders at the typical online dealers?

Are we loking at a new Toys R US exclusive? A new commitment to stocking Elite Force? If so, I would venture to say that we should be looking at Toys R US planning to roll out the well-anticipated WWII figures and other stuff in future in our neighboorhoods.

Give me your thoughts. I want to know if reconing at TRUS or looking online is our best bet at securing this stuff at reasonable price...

Regards,

MW

BTW: please let me know if you have access to these. Would pay a premium to have this early. We in the Chicago area tend to get put at the back of the distribution line.

I just found the Super Humvee at TRU here in West Lafayette, IN. They get their stuff from the same DC that services the Chicago area. Only $19.99, though it rang up as the 1st Marine Division Humvee from last year but thats probably still the right price. I'd suggest checking the Brickyard, North Riverside, or Niles TRUs, they're the biggest stores and usually get stuff first. Or the Joliet store, I think they're right by the DC itself.

I dunno if its a TRU exclusive, but seeing as how they're the only major retail chain that carries these they're probably BBI's single largest customer and likely to get stuff earlier. And other companies certainly have been giving the store exclusives to try and help keep them afloat. I try and purchase there whenever I can, their Elite Force stuff generally seems cheaper than online anyway.

Oh and I'd just like to take the opportunity to say I'm (obviously) new here; just finally found the site after searching high and low for a dedicated 1:18 military forum. I've already gleaned a lot of new info just from browsing the threads, and look forward to posting here! :D

Thats great news. I check the Riverside TRU often and have found the best stuff there.

I figure after we plow ourselves out tomorrow, I'll head out there.

Hope the storm fairs well in IN.

I can't figure TRU out. The TRU I spotted the Kiowa at has a new manager, and for the last 6 months hasn't been getting squat. Add to it I went there looking for 21C Marines or the Super Humvee, and spot that. Then again, its like this with all the BBi and 21C stuff - you never know what you will see in the stores. I've yet to see any consistancy in the Walmarts around here as to which 21C vehicles they get.

Check 'em all, its only wasting time and dino-juice!
