In the PTO, quite likely I would think. The major anti-sub ops were in the Atlantic IIRC, while the PTO was involved in destroying the enemy fleet and island hopping. With island hopping involving very intense ground support.Aviatornut.com wrote:what is the likelihood of an Avenger stationed on a carrier having rocket that is not being used for sub hunting.

Avengers did use rockets. I saw a documentary about Iwo Jima and they showed Avengers firing rockets at ground installations. Also Avengers DID use torpedos and quite often in fact. They were used in duel bombing and torpedo missions. Such was the case at Midway and the Marianna's campaign also known as the Turkey Shoot. The Avenger was a very usable fighting lady because of the fact that the SB2C Helldivers were considered troublesome and hard to handle. One pilot has said that the 3 most dependable airplanes in the Pacific during world war 2 was the Avenger, Hellcat and the Corsair.
