Doll House Stigma..
Doll House Stigma..
I've seen a couple of threads where the topic of 1:18 buildings comes up.. especially scalable buildings where floors can be added...
If the stigma of kitbashing a 1:18 doll house won't kill you
Check out this link and the buildings, furniture, and accessories that are available..

I like that grill - perfect for after a tough day on the battlefield! I've been looking at large-scale model railroading buildings. A little small for 1:18, but there are some nice Western-themed pieces available. Can be pretty pricey, though. But with Dusty Trails coming out with their Western series of figures...
G'day All
I always thought the Playmobil Doll House would make an excellent WWII building.

The dollhouse from Playmobil is great, but there's an odd feeling to it that it's needing painted up or something.
Really nice detail inside though... Accessories are sorta 1:18 if they're not oddly sculpted for the figures.
Worth great to have though. i used to collect Playmobil when I was a kid, and it's great. The dollhouse I got for my "wild west" sets... A sort of budding western town. Tons of cool stuff in that line like book shelves, furniture, plates, etc., etc.... Just tons. Keep it as an option.
It's gonna cost you though.

I collected Playmobil, too! Lots of cool pieces, my favorite being the large floating Pirate Ship. They've recently made some very cool Viking pieces and I was very tempted to get the Viking ship (its actually very accurate when compared to the real ones preserved in Oslo, Norway). Unfortunantly, no space and I'm a little old for Playmobil!
Good idea using the Victorian house and the older buildings. Playmobil is a German-based company and alot of their older buildings (like the brown one in a previous post) were designed after classic German buildings!

Man, browsing their sites brings back some stuff...
WTF is up with them dropping wild west though? THat was their bread and butter when I was a kid.
They finally did Civil War figures too and I'm not buying those anymore... AH! I made my own CW guys when I was a kid by painting union hats grey. Decked out guys in butternut or grey in the hats then... Gave 'em muskets.
Why couldn't they have done that when I was a wee one? Dammit
Their stuff is incredible. I swear if I wasn't into other lines this would be on my list...

Generally they're open on the back... The dollhouse is for sure.
Some of the sets had full walls, but not many.
Like I had the western sets which consisted of square houses you could link together or stack... Ala the old west and everything. Well, they were all open in the back for access... You could technically have walled those in but it won't work on the dollhouse i don't believe.
I saw someone once (9th WaffenSS maybe?) who did the dollhouse up as an SS headquarters or something... Had little Nazi banners and everything. Really nice set-up...
With how price the Playmobil is, you almost hate to paint the house up to look more realistic... it's ok, but a coat of paint on it would make it really sharp and realistic. But even the prices at stores aren't cheap really. Compared to the website Playmobil has they're cheaper, but not by a ton more.
God I'm still irked they make civil war dudes NOW instead of then. And in army builder packs on top of that!

Playmobil is not 1:18, per say. Some of the accessories, which are oversized, would work for this scale, but the figures are only a little over 3" tall, and the buildings & vehicles scaled accordingly. I guess you could say they're 1:20 or 1:25 or something. The Playmobil figures work very well with G scaled model train products, for a more accurate scale reference.
Here is another one worth looking at,Sylvanian Family, saw them in store today.I couldn't open the box but the bunny rabbits they sell are about the height of a XD human, bear this in mind when looking at pics of their various building with mummy and daddy rabbit in it.

Now this is interesting:
http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-LARGE-LUNDB ... dZViewItem
Under $2 opening bid, although the shipping will be quite a bit. But those stables coulc be used as garages....for staff cars, perhaps? I'd love to see someone on the board get this and customize it for XD. It already has a WWII European look to it., IMO.

cool
Wow - correct me if I'm wrong but 22 inches high is about perfect for three stories. Very nice detail on that one without too much doll house effect. Shame it is overseas. Still very nice.

Aferg... Old threads never die, they just mellow with age...
One thing I remember when I was a kid that was very from accurate scale if taken literally, but made AWESOME structures for 3-3/4 GI Joe and Star Wars figures was the Girder and Panel sets. I remember building some awesome guard towers, bridges, etc... Of course, I haven't seen anything like those in almost 20 years.
