I got my 21st Century F-86 from Razor 17019, and this is one great looking model. First off, I really like the turning nose gear. And they got the forward nose gear doors right. When you lower the nose gear, the doors set themselves the correct way, and that is a nice feature. Also the great struts are well detailed. That is one thing I didn't care for with the Admiral F-86. The 21st Century nose gear strut looks great, and when you have the model displayed it looks nice with the front wheel turned. Plus on the real F-86 the nose wheel turns 90 degrees when it is retracted.
I took the model outside to take some pictures, and one thing that stands out is how well the yellow paint is done on the wings and fuse. The plane looks awesome out in the sunshine, and you can really see how well the yellow paint is applied.
I am really impressed with the door that you can remove to see the guns. This door fits so well, that if I didn't know you could take it off, I would have never known. The door pops off and is easy to put back on.
One area of caution is when you first open the canopy. The canopy has a peg that snaps into the forward windscreen, and mine had a tight fit. You have to push down on the top of the canopy when it joins the windscreen to release it. Just be careful so that you don't pull the windscreen off the plane.
The cockpit is just awesome. The seatbelts look great, and I am going to leave the pilot out of mine so people can see the seatbelts. The instrument panel looks great, and the overall look of the cockpit is super nice.
I took alot of pictures of my new F-86 and MIG-15 together today. They make a great looking pair. As most of you know I am a huge fan of the F-86, and this model captures the look of the Sabre. Great job 21st Century. :D

I can't believe that Digger has a Sabre before I do! I was at 21st HQ over the weekend and still didn't get one before Digger!!!!!

I really can't complain though, Roy was kind enough to let me have a finished production piece of the S2 MiG-15 (tiger camo stripe)!
This paint scheme is so beautiful in person! A very striking scheme! Can't wait till these start to show up for the rest of you guys! Meanwhile enjoy your sabres! Now I gotta go find one for myself

Nice pictures and a great looking plane :D I will be excited when these show up in my area (if ever) but I can wait out this one. The pilot looks fantastic! Is it just me, or is the seat a little low in the cockpit? Seems like it should sit up a little higher...

Thanks for posting my pictures Razor. I took those today in my driveway. These are two great looking models, and to me they look even better outside. I hope everyone enjoys the pictures. :D

KAGNEW, the various WMs here are starting to get 2-3 Migs sitting on the shelves and no F-86 yet so there is frustration here as well!

It's dry in Illinois

Post by jhogan » Thu Sep 28, 2006 11:05 am

I keep reading about you happly people who have found Migs and now F-86's. I toured three Central Illinois W-M's this morning (Peoria, E. Peoria and Washington) looking for these birds. Still nothing. How about Bloomington or Springfield? anybody found Jets in Illinois? I'm willing to travel to find them!

This is probably too far of a hike, but I did see one MIG-15 at the Round Lake, IL Walmart (NW of Chicago, near the WI border). I passed on it as I'm waiting for the S2 paint scheme.

MiGs in Illinois

Post by aae83 » Fri Sep 29, 2006 6:05 pm

Last weekend, found a solo MiG-15 at the O'Fallon, IL, Wal-Mart. No sign of the F-86, though, nor any indication of either jet elsewhere in the St. Louis area. Saw several Smoke IIs around.

Situation could have changed in the last few days; haven't had a chance to stop anywhere this week.

I forget where I saw this but someone had posted a concern that the MiG-15 wings sagged sligtly when in a "flight" position.

Anyway I did a little checking and even spoke to Mr. Sutherland about it last week, here is what I found out. Hope this helps. (My tiger camo S2 mig also has the correct amount of anhedral to the wings.)

If the wings are installed properly on the MiG-15, they SHOULD have a small amount of anhedral. It was a design feature of the MiG-15. It was incorporated into the design to improve handling, especially slow speed handling during take-off and landing. Swept wings allow for much higher speeds to be attained but are inherently unstable.

Thanks for the info! If you look at photos of actual Mig-15s or see some surviving examples, they do indeed have the sagging wings. It never really bothered me on my 21c model!

shouldn't the tiger stipe lines be more wavy and less straight edged? I know Roy is usually on the ball on these things so i imagine it's correct but every example i've ever seen of the real thing had wavy edged tiger stripe lines...

The Chinese is nifty, but I am going to pass. It just doesn't scream Mig to me like the classic silver and red.
