Scale Battleship in Display

Post by Magilla1973 » Thu Dec 23, 2004 11:39 am

So Im driving homw the other night at go past the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station and there at the front gate is a huge scale battleship !

Appearantly this guy rescued the thing from a trash can. it is a scale version of the Nevada used in the movie Tora Tora Tora. It doesnt seem to quite be 1:18 sacle (seems the original was 583' so 1:18 would put it at 32' long) - this could be close.

Here is an article about Lt. Cmdr. Walter Riter who saved and restored the thing. He died recently and they have it on display.

At 40 feet long it's more like 1/15 scale.....impressive.

I've seen it in person and have photos of it. It's MASSIVE. It was at the Tustin Veteran's Day Parade here in November. Very amazing to see.
