SKU #
There are alot of pages to read so I just have to ask this if anyone hasn't yet. Whats the SKU # for the Avenger??
I'm just getting the BOB figures.
I'm just getting the BOB figures.
The Turkey has arrived!
I got my 'Turkey'!!! Hadn't gotten back to the WM which had them "somewhere", but dropped in on another one west of me in Lebanon, MO. And there they where, four of 'em!
It is a beauty, for sure! It is now hanging on a wall with my other Navy planes. I guess I can pitch my Small Blue Planet pre-order It went together like a charm. I did not try the wing fold; that feature will be put to use on my future "Lost Squadron" TBM, which has a horizontal spot on top of a file cabinet at work.
I'm going to work up a set of the earlier rocket rails used on many of the ASW Avengers. I'll leave the rails empty, but am going to scavenge the rockets for the Bunker Hill Corsair, to make it complete. I'll paint the rocket mounts Sea Blue and drill mounting holes in the wing, using the TBM hole pattern.
Hang in there those of you who are still without the TBM!!

How does that Avenger look now? When I last saw it (1999) it was still in need of heavy restoration and parts of it were all in pieces. Back then, the turret was sitting out where you could get a good look at it - I was tempted to sneak across the rope and sit in itvulgarvulture wrote:I don't have a W-M Avenger recon report because my AO is the pits. However, I just spent the day on the USS Hornet museum in Alameda, CA on which is a restored Avenger and it reaffirms my thoughts of what a magnificent a/c the Avenger is. Just fantastic. Dammit, I want one in 1:18 NOW.

Now, I'm ticked. I do not want the Atlantic Avenger, so there
Now, I wouldn't take one even if Wally himself gave it tp me, so there.....
I'm gonna wait for the Flight 19 or Papa Bush version.
I've been waiting for what, two and a half years for a pre-order from Small Blue Planet, I can wait some more. , and look at what happened tp SBP?

Avengers in Central Illinois
Avengers are in the Washington, Illinois WM. Two left.
I'm thinking about painting a pin-up on my Avenger... I realize it would not be accurate (as I've never seen an avenger with nose art) but what do you guys think?

OK bad idea

oh well I did it anyway

Avenger Blues
You would think that WM would at least make the Avenger available through their web site. So far...nada!

Torpedo
When it carried torpedoes, the TBM carried the Mark 13 exclusively. I did find an online reference (can't remember where now) to the Mark 13 being used by both aircraft and PT boats:
"Mark 13 type. The Mark 13 torpedo, compared with the others, is short and thick: its length is 13 1/2 feet, and its diameter, 22 1/2 inches. (The others all have the same diameter-21 inches-so they will fit the standard torpedo tubes.) The Mark 13 is designed for launching from aircraft and PT boats. Its range is 6,000 yards at an average speed of 33 1/2 knots, and it carries 600 pounds of high explosive."
Also a great link to information about U.S. torpedoes:
http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WTUS_WWII.htm
In addition to the info on the Mark 13, note the Mark 24 Fido (actually a homing torpedo, was called a mine for security purposes) Many Atlantic TBM's used these successfully in ASW use.

torpedoes
I checked on PT Boats and came across this site:
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepage ... tspecs.htm
It lists Mark 13 torpedoes later.
