Thanks for the quick reply Digger! Too bad that there won't be more tails. Which online store had the different tails?

That was Bad Cat Aviation, www.badcataviation.com. The F-16 is a well done aircraft. It does not have the moving control surfaces like the 21c planes and the missiles may be slightly on the large side, but it is a great looking plane. Overall, its level of detail is superior to the stock (non-customized) BBI F-18 and on the "Wolf Pack" F-16, the markings are nearly spot-on accurate to an actual aircraft.

Don't forget that you had to apply your own decals, so they weren't quite like the factory applied markings of the Dragon or Marauder F-18's. This alone kept me from buying any. One little slip-up and you ruined the decals.....

Over 1000 2-tone F-16s and decal packs were produced and now that they are long gone, I can look back on this project with fond memories. It was probably one of our most creative endeavors.

I remember you posting the objection about decal installation when this series was introduced. In reality, we had very few people report difficulties with applying the decals, we were worried there would be more but it was really a non-issue. I suppose those that knew they were all thumbs used our decal application service that was offered at our labor cost. The biggest issue surrounding the ANG Series was coordinating what was essentially two exclusives (plane and decal pack(s)) sold as one and remembering to include the correct pack into the shipping container!

As for future projects like this, chances are slim. Our cost on this item was about 25% higher than a Wolfpack F-16 but the marketplace would not allow for any premium on the selling price. The market also told us that customers would much rather pull a plane out of a box and display it, rather than modifying it with a decal pack. Wolfpack F-16s were (are) more popular than any of the ANGs.

However, the end result made for some stunning airplanes that we still get many calls about. I found this tail in the warehouse the other day--who wouldn't want one of these? This was such a cool project, BIG FUN!

I have to say, I've got the California ANG version and absolutely love it. Decal application was no problem. This is a unique bird in my collection and it's great that BCA made it available. Too bad there will not be more of the same coming down the pike.

Cal ANG

An interesting note about the Cal ANG:

We donated a model to each of the seven respective squadrons used in the ANG series, asking only that the model be placed where other members of the unit could see it. Most were appreciative including a very nice letter we received from the Indiana Squadron Commander.

However, the PR Lieutenant at the CAL ANG refused their package and then she threatened us with legal action for using a "top secret" aircraft and its paint scheme without their permission. LOL I guess she didn't understand the concept of public domain. When the flying officers finally got wind of this great product they began ordering but we only had two left. They bought these but many went without and when told of the earlier run in with Lt. Rockhead they were furious but not surprised.

Anyway VV, if you ever get tired of it, I know some Fresno ANG officers who would absolutely kill to have one! LOL

I just had to buy the Texas ANG version since it is from a squadron in my home state. Shortly after my purchase, while on business back in Austin, I got to see an F-16 from that squadron at Austin/Bergstrom. The tail was in low visibility markings but still as eye catching as the high visibility version I have.

Thanks for giving us that option Bad Cat. Much appreciated.
