Aircraft repaint options

What aircraft do you think would offer the most in repaint options, not including any already produced 1/18 scale aircraft?

F-4 Phantom, USAF, USN, Edwards, RAF, RAAF, Israel, .....
A-4 Skyhawk
Mig 29
F-15
Mirage III

Would have to be a tossup... F-4 or A-4...take your pick, both were supplied to many nations. The Skyhawk was a smaller, much less complex AC than the Phantom, and offered lots of bang for the buck, therefore it was probably more attractive from a cost and maintenance perspective to many small and medium size nations.

Depends on how closely you look

UK F4s had Rolls Royce Spey engines, which meant spoiling the (relatively!) sleek lines of the Phantom; whereas most of them had a nice "waisted" appearance, the Brits ('K and 'M) had considerably wider engine tunnels and bigger nozzles.

German F4s lacked Sparrow fittings so never flew with fuselage-mounted missiles; all they had was the nose-mounted gun and 'Winders under the wings.

Most people probably wouldn't notice these, but then the people on this forum are not most people!

(Nb: the only Brit Phantoms to retain the original appearance were the J-models purchased from US stocks following the Falklands conflict - these kept their original J79 smokers and were given the designation J-UK to explain to us poor Limeys why they looked different to the rest of our Rhinos.

Buggrit, also meant to mention the number of "different" colour schemes you could get away with on such Western birds as Hunters or Mirages and practically any MiG, Sukhoi, Tupolev, Mil or Kamov bird - the (former) USSR had a very large number of purchasers...

I said major differences, was nozzles & noses,
and most Wally world paytrons wouldn't notice British waists

also Revell on their 1/32 German Phantoms gives you plugs for Sparrow slots.
but i think if we got a 1/18 Phantom they may complain only a little as they carry them home

even Hasegawa doesn't do recasts for British Phantoms, and they have some of the best Phantom kits out there

Later version P-40's served in almost every Allied air arm all over the globe.

But for sheer numbers, it would indeed be hard to beat the Phantom II. Very few fighter aircraft can boast being used by the AF, USN and USMC.

The other advantage to the Phantom (from a marketing standpoint) is there are thousands of ex-Phantom drivers still around, many of whom have space at home or office for one in their markings.
