Soldier Force V Releases (Malaysia that is)

Post by steelbonnet » Wed Jun 14, 2006 5:46 am

Hi All,

Fellow Board member dzirhan posted this on JC & a few other boards,to save him here`s a Cut n Paste. Hope you don`t mind mate.

I know not everyone`s cup of tea for accuracy & underscale BUT Chap Mei DO bring a lot to the 1/18th scale NO ONE else does. Also know there`s a few guys here who DO use Chap mei So for them I cut n pasted this here :D

"Took a look at the stores here and found out Soldier Force V is out in Malaysia along with the Pirates line and the new Wild Park series. Here's the lowdown on them;

Soldier Force V - There's a jet aircraft in this line!!! The Harrier Jump Jet which I automatically bought, haven't opened it yet but it does come with a new sculpt pilot figure, sorry no pics also as my bro took the digital camera with him on vacation and doesn't come back till next week, very nice set IMO, the jet is about 3 3/4 shorter than a Joe Conquest but the proportions are fairly balanced so it doesn't look that stunted.
Also saw the P-61 Black Widow, camo versions of the Ninja/bad guyz jet boat and jet copter, two versions of the halftrack, one has an overhead roll cage while the other has a quad cannon mount. The Dino valley wheeled power loader has been redone as an attack vehicle and the wiesal now has a cannon mount, there's also a new jeep in the form of a land rover style attack vehicle, looks somewhat like the Land Rover Special Operations Vehicles I saw at a few defence shows. Also saw the skycrane transport, some sets still include the oversized weapons.

Pirates line, saw the two pirate boats, the small one and big one but both pretty much look out of scale, more like a boat for 1/35 scale rather than 3 3/4

Wild Park - features some new figures and redone vehicles along with animals from the previous lines and some of new animals plus a tree house which I think was redone from Dino Valley, aplogies for the sparseness of the report but was in a rush as I couldn't hang around and too exicted over buying the harrier to really look at everything. "

Now is that excellent news or what,a HARRIER finally out in the 1/18th realm (or close enough).
I`ve had a pm chat with dzirhan & it`s a the smaller nose which would put it more akin to the original test base Hawker Kesteral,Harrier/AV8-A or AV8-B/GR5. Though anything is possible with customizing it.
I`ve no idea on the wings if the earlier type or the bigger type.
Nor as dzirhan say`s any pictures either.

Must admit knowing dzirhan & he does know his stuff as we know. If he was excited that`s GOT TO BE GOOD :D
He set me off with the Chap mei Wiesels last year when posted photos of them & was kind enough to help me out with 3 of them too. All have been made to look more accurate Modern GermanWiesels now too.

So I`m eager as pie to get one of these to look over & play with. After all you Gotta to love Harriers :D

Hey Jason, No problem on reposting my info, I'm on so many forums/board that sometimes I can't remember which one I posted the info on :) Steel Bonnet is too kind on me but don't take it too literally that if I'm excited, it's that good, I get pretty stroked up when I see a new military piece that's not made before even though the realism isn't there, then again sometimes realistic stuff reminds me too much of work, honestly it becomes less fun when you work in the defence field for a living
Anyway, got around to opening my Harrier, it has two molded hollow drop tanks, the box pic actually showed two removable pylon mounted drop tanks until I realized the plane shown on the box front was a drawing, wonder if that was the concept prototype picture, if it was I wished they kept the removable drop tanks. the wings are about 4.5 inch in length from fuselage and are not bent enough like the real harrier, It also has a box launcher near the end of each wing for the spring loaded missiles, you get the front landing wheels and the wing wheels like the AV-8B but no rear wheels. Scale wise this actually more the size what a British Aerospace Hawk or an Aermacchi MB series would be in actual 1/18, come to think of it, may be Chap Mei should have opted to do those aircraft as their size would translate better but then again we might have gotten a Hawk or Aermacchi the size of a pilatus in 1/18 :) if you put it next to BBI's F-18s and F-16s, it'll look odd. Personally despite all this, I like it at least until BBI or 21st does a Harrier, kinda like my Godzilla Force F-18 which I replace with the BBI one (I wanted to get the PTE F-18 but then the release of the BBI one made it moot) but those opting for more realism might be put out on it.
I'll get pics up next week when my bro gets back with the camera.

Ahhhh so it`s NOW out of the box eh :D

Any chance you could scan the packaging then & post?

The wings NOT drooping isn`t a prob a little heat should sort that out :D

As for the being excited, hell I am & I`ve yet to see it,even with you saying it`s around the size of a HAWK. I can live with that till as you say XD or BBI bring one out.

I`ve ALWAYS wanted a Harrier to go with my troops.

As for plane`s I`m rather lucky in that I only have a PTE F18,the rest is a Helo fleet.
Oh I do have a Skystriker though that`s under construction to be a VF1 (Robotech).

Plus I know how much I would like to get 1 or 2 of the Chap mei V-22s even though there snub versions.
So like you I`m very stoked there`s a Harrier out there no matter how close to accurate it is :D If a 1/18 figure fits it & it works i`m happy :D

I agree -- any Harrier is a good Harrier! It's a little bit smaller (compared to say a hornet or eagle) subject matter for a 1:18 jet, and is such a unique wonderful plane, that I would be surprised if 21C, BBI, or AT doesn't do one eventually.

And I agree chap-mei has its place. The figures actually provide some good custom fodder to combine with PTE. The heads are interchangeable and you can often pry off chap-mei holsters, pouches, equipment, etc. to glue onto the PTE guys to liberate them a bit from their flat body sculpt.

And the vehicles have their moments -- I love my "sea-knight" ch-46 that can fit a SEAL DPV, or a CRRC, or 12 battle-equipped troops in the back.

Hi all,

Sorry I was supposed to have let everyone know that I've posted a picture of the harrier but it slipped my mine due to work, the Harrier is underscaled naturally but it'll do until BBI or 21st does one :)

Looks good!

I guess, Chap Mei, BBI Command line, and PTE have something to worry about.

I like some of the figures, how articulated are they?

also where to buy in the US?
keep me posted...

Articulation wise they are about the same as lego figures :) just movable arms and legs. They do make nice custom fodder to work on. Distribution is spotty, from the postings I've seen they show up in Big Lots and Rite Aids in the U.S but irregularly and you're never sure what you get, we get the whole line here in Malaysia but pay twice the price they would go for in the states :( I believe some euro sellers offer them on Ebay.

i just noticed that there are a bunch of 1/24 scale Harrier kits by Airfix. Sea Harrier FRS I and Harrier GR 1 and GR 3 (with the dolphin nose).

At 1/24 they'd be about 2 feet long each, which i suspect is almost twice as big as the chap mei version (which looks about 14 inches long to me). The cockpits would be a tight squeeze but i'd bet you could put a 1/18 figure in it, probably need to remove the legs. May be an alternative to the Chap Mei offering; being both larger and more accurate. There aren't any more modern versions of the Harrier in 1/24 though, just those three.

The kits are on ebay for around $50, with patience.
