I would love to see a 1:18th scale T-6 Texan, and a Navy SNJ version. You are right, there are so many nice paint schemes a model like that could have. :D

A Steerman would be nice because there aren't any bipes in the fleet as of yet. Though, I highly doubt we will see a bipe of any vintage out of the compnay any time soon. Now, a Texan would be nice. They are all over the airshow circuit and there are some great schemes. I am partial to the RCAF yellow Harvard, but that's just me. I think the standard silver and red would be a good one too. We can hope we see one someday.

I would love a Steerman - and in the blue & yellow scheme to boot! My grandfather flew these both as a flight instructor for the WASPs during WWII and as a cropduster afterwards. The Steerman has always been one of my favorite bi-planes :D I wouldn't mind a Texan as well.

There could be some potential for these aircraft in retail sales. The Steermans are quite popular airshow birds and people would probably get one (say, if they saw it at Wal Mart) simply because its a bi-plane and looks good. The Texan may perhaps be harder to sell along those lines, but it still has that warbird look and thus may attract attention. Neither were really used as combat planes and usually didn't carry guns or ordinance, so that my be a turnoff... Nonetheless, model kits, RC aircraft, diecast banks, and wooden display pieces have been made of the Steerman and AT-6 Texan, so there certainly has to be a market for them 8)

the Red Barons super Stearman would be a bright spot on any Wally shelf.
Sky Typers would be a pretty repaint on AT-6 :?:

Both of these planes were extremely important in the formation of pilots. Without these planes, there would have been no pilots to fly the P-51s, P-47s, P-38s, Corsairs............................. :D

I would side with the Kaydet. While the Texan is a classic plane, it just doesn't have anything "sexy" about it.

before the restored jets, the AT-6 / SNJ were the loudest planes at any airport  that was sexy :D
I LOVE JET NOISE!
AT-6 / SNJ's were the most advanced trainer in WWII, plus the French put guns on them and used them in early colonial wars after war as AT-6Gs before the T-28Ds so it could be considered a war bird 8)

I have seen some of The Texans at local air shows- I think it would make a good model. But I must agree with Ski that the Stearman is a sexier bird, and might catch peoples eye more on store shelves.

i have a 1/18 (well 1/20) Tiger Moth that i'm very happy with. A trainer makes a nice change of pace from fighters. I wouldn't count on seeing any trainer in 1/18 though, not in mass production form at least

Funny how this topic came up. This (snj-5)plane flew over my house yesterday. We headed over to the local airport and found it parked...

Seems the old Gillows Stearman could be scaled to 1/18.
I'm not sure what its current scale is but that would be sweet.
Engine (there were 3) would be tough but could be cast in rosin.

Hmmmm, would that be a custom?

i know a place that will make you a 1/18 scale custom model of one for $175 delivered. It would be carved from wood, like those desktop models you see. Quality of their work is good.

If someone were to do an AT-6 they should really offer it in a ready-to finish version. The schemes are so varied that there's no practical way to find a best-choice marking example.
