OK, OK, so alot of us are not too excicited about the new 1/18 armor, the Sdkfz 251/7.
Besides the fact, that this model comes with that neat little 2.8 cannon, besides the bridge, the idea of reworking already produced models is not new to this board but I thought I'd bring it up again:
Take the existing M-3 US half-track and rework it to a M-16 or a track with a 75mm anti-tank or ....be still thy heart...a 105mm howitzer.
Also take the 105mm from the half-track and add wheels to be stand alone artillery.
Rework the Sherman to take the 105mm Howitzer for a M-7 Priest.
Rework the Sherman to be a Firefly.
There is a bunch of new models without the production problems of a entire new piece.
And that's not even counting the other absolute terrific models that can be made out of the Sdkfz 251 and the other models that can be made from the Tiger and Panther.
Thanks you 21C for this new neat little Sdkfz 251/7. I'm looking for the other announcements.

Sometimes I am the windshield, sometimes, I am the bug.
i've been surprised for 5 1/2 years they haven't done a jagdpanther yet. Maybe they will soon?
The most obvious rework for the panzer IV is a Wirblewind. Zero modifictions to the hull. Just make the new turret with flakvierling. I'm crossing my fingers for this one.
The hanomag has many possibilities. The greatest of which is the pak 40 mount and the stuka zu fuss rocket launcher.
I've got nothing against reworks. They are a very logical and cost effective way to go. But i really hope we seem some brand new types as well (which can be further reworked in the future
).
BTW here's a Dragon 1/35 kit of the hanomag bridglelayer with squeeze bore AT gun:

Good custom idea, and relatively easy to do.
I'd sure buy one if it was made, by a custom guy or 21C.
I'm not PC and I don't scare easy, after all, I am a VN vet and have lived in LA for a year and scariest all, in Texas for two years.
(Just a joke, Texan brothers in 1/18 )

You are correct about your reservation. I have said before, you will NEVER see IDF anything. Their F16s look sweet as hell but I think there is zero chance.Morian Miner wrote:Would like to see the Halftrack reworked into some of the IDF vehicles, but I think that may be too much of a political hotbutton to hope for.

They used a lot of Shermans after the war.
Israel has a rather funny monument, there is a Sherman on top of a 5 or so story colum, I saw it on photo, can never forget it since

When they first became a country they took whatever they could get. A few of the first tanks they used were Panzer IV's and among the first airplanes they could buy were German, Me-109's I think.
We have all seen the pics of the K-98 German rifles in IDF hands when that was the best buy for their pocket book.

You are right on this point. I had to choose between collecting armour or planes because of space in our home. Planes are taking more space and even if I am happy with the only one I have (a Stuka - thanks a lot Diggertko211 wrote:Yep-
This new Hanomag really opens the door fro some very cool modifications to it and other porducts in the future.
I am just glad to see a new piece that doesn't have wings. NOT that I have ANYTHING against new planes. I LOVE THEM. But a new piece of Armor is a most welcomed sight!

Take care.
