I sure hope someone at 21st century was paying attention to this, wink, wink
It's a nice thought Jason, but the reality of the situation is this: 21C is a corporation and a business, and as such they exist for one primary reason... to market products that will realize the corporation the maximum possible profit. It would be sweet to think that they would heed things like movie influences, fan base wants, and the like, but it is likely that they only pay attention to such extraneous influences to the extent that they can be incorporated in to the product line to generate more sales. How they come up with their new product decisions is anybodies guess, but most corporate entities employ some type of relativeley scientific demographic/statistical research to arrive at these marketing decisions, and the movie, fan and other influences play a very minor role, if any. A shame yes, but I think it is pretty close to the mark. All the best,

Scott

The DUKW is a great idea. It's been mentioned on wish lists along with the duece & a half for quite a few years.

The attraction there is the DUKW's use in almost all thearters of WW2.

The Amtrak and the Higgins boat are both a stretch, even though both were used for the Rhine Crossing in Europe.

As for the tie in with the Iwo movie, yea that would be nice, but I would think that would have already been announced if such a tie in existed. After the movie tie in's with that stupid animated movie with the P-40, and both "Sahara" and "Platoon" tie ins falling flat, I think 21C is thinking twice about such tie ins.

Don't get, me wrong. I would like to see either or both the Higgins Boat and the Amtrak but I don't feel 21C is interested. The desire is too narrow in purpose, and the production would be 100% new.

The new German half-track is a re-work of a 21C Sdkfz 251, which has been out for years. It may be an obscure model but is connected to the original production run.

The same would go for a M-7 SP 105, or the M-3 Grant, even the Firefly Sherman. If 21C puts these into production the lower hull and running gear (the hardest part) is there and bugs have had years to be worked out in their original Sherman.

Unless, alot of us are wrong, the next completely new 1/18 vehicle will be the King Tiger, and you can be assured the KT will be followed by connections to the KT, using different bodies on the same running gear.

Everyone has opinions, I happen to have liked "Sahara". What I did not like was 21C adding two lookalike figures to a WW2 Jeep and saying it was connected. The Jeep in the movie was a modern Jeep and looked nothing like the WW2 vehicle that 21C had laying around and said the tie in was valid because "a Jeep is a Jeep, nobody will notice".......We noticed.

I think the future for 21C is multiple vehicles made from the same running gear. That is if 21C doesn't go entirely into planes and drop vehicles. It can happen  They already did that with multiple paint versions of the same plane, how many versions of the F-104 was originally announced, not only for different countries buit even different National Guard units  they probably already thought about a NYPD version of the F-104   I'm holding out for a NYFD version of the Avenger as an air tanker.....after all, those big tankers can't work in the canyons of Manhattan where the Avenger would work fine. I'd buy one.
