schutzstaffel limited edition set.

Post by newwavepop » Wed Jun 07, 2006 7:49 am

hello i looked and im suprised i dont see anything about it on here.
just wanted to let people know that the old small blue planet exclusive sets they were going to have right before they closed have been given to smalljoes.com now as an exclusive.
just got mine a few days ago.

http://smalljoes.com/german_ss_schutzstaffel.shtml

when they were offered about a year ago i was curious who they were made by because it didnt say anything about the manufacturer.
and i still didnt see it listed on smalljoes site.

but now that mine are here i was a little dissapointed because there just the ultimate soldier xd series 1 germans and the bob german long coats.
im kind of tired of 21c using the same heads over and over.
and i really cant stand the head for the bob german trenchcoat guy.

but this is still a pretty cool set and save customizing time and the set of 16 comes out to about $5 so its not anymore than you would pay anyway.

i just wish they could have made 2 simple new arms uniforn arm and coat arm instead of just painting the armbands on.

Wow, the set looks amazing. Can anyone who has the set tell me about the articulation. DO these have the split elbow and knee joints, or are they the pin joints? I looked at as many pics as I could find but black plastic hides the joints really well!

It is a bit pricy but something tells me If i don't get i will be sorry I missed out.

Many thanks in advance.

James, they all have the newer elbow articulation but a few of them have the old knee joint. It is really not a problem since the Infantry have the new knees and just a few of the guys with the soft caps and officer caps have the old - which actually hides the joint much better (the original impetus for the funky articulation I think).

They're numbered __ of 5000. But I heard that 21st has so far only produced about half of these sets, and will only do another production run if the first 2500 sell really well.

Me too! The German Paras are of particular relevance to NZ since the only time they were used as paras was the invasion of Crete which was under the command of NZ General Freyberg.

The Maori battalion were there too and were involved in a famous bayonet charge of '42nd street'.

Of course NZ were also involved in the assault on Monte Cassino, and subsequent fighting in Italy until the end of the war.

Noted some of the 21st SS figs were pulled by E-Bay. Do they have a problem with the Swastikas?

Crete was the only strategic use of airborne troops by the German but it was not the only time they used them in that role . The Fallschirmjäger were also used tactically in Norway , Belgium (both in 40 and 44) ,Holland , France , Greece and Italy . The most famous of these small operations is of course the freeing of Mussolini

And I dont know how the british could screw up in Crete since they had the full intelligence of the german attack that also had to be carried out by airborne troops .

Demonclaw, yes you are right of course about other para uses.
Yes they knew the invasion was coming but my understanding is that if the defenders 'overreacted' it was feared 'ULTRA" might be compromised.
The British also ordered that the airfields were not to be rendered unusable.
