Comparison of 1:18 and 1:16

Post by Threetoughtrucks » Sun Dec 05, 2004 11:12 am

I know its been discussed before on the "old" site, but have you guys compared the 1:16 trucks available to our 1:18 stuff.

I finally got around to getting a couple of Highway 61 metal trucks. A '41 Ford Stake Body and a '41 GMC Flatbed. Great models but oversized for our stuff unless you put them next to a tank, still oversized but not too bad.

Has anybody tried a 1:16 firetruck in an airport setting with our planes??
Would they still be oversized? I've been looking at 1:16 R/C tank kits, I'd really like to have an M-26 or King Tiger. Looks like we'll never see either from 21C.

I really don't need more ways to spend money, but hey you can't take it with you..

It's kind of an individual taste sort of deal. Some find 1/16 not a problem for them and others find it way too big. The difference between 1/16 and 1/18 is greater than the difference between 1/32 and 1/35.

Too me it is too much but as i said there are others for which the size difference doesn't bother at all. It's really up to you. The size difference is quite noticable when you place them side by side.

As far as not seeing the M26 and King Tiger in 1/18.....well i wouldn't say that anymore. With BBI in the mix now and 21c back to making armour i think both are likely subjects in the months/years to come..

You know, that honestly doesn't look so bad scale wise! That Tanker figure you have as a driver fits in the cab without a millimeter to spare. Besides, the fact that 21st figures seem to be a tiny bit large for 1:18 scale makes those figures look decent alongside that truck.

Also, I've noticed a pretty significant size variation between 1:18 figures. Some - most of the BoB germans, for example - appear much larger than most of the Paras. The German winter tanker is almost a giant. And if you're going outside of Xd and bbi, Star Wars figures are often tiny (what is Hasbro thinking with that, anyway?). My point is, depending on the figures and how the 1:16 pieces are positioned, I don't see any problem at all using it with 1:18

Centone's pictures show a good comparison. The 1:18 armor looks passable next to the 1:16 truck, the figures I think look great next to the truck but the "solf skin" jeep really highlights the size difference. I only have my Stuka to compare but I can't do it now.

I couldn't check this out for myself due to a "bunker" remodelng. Almost all of my 1:18 toys are packed away. I only have a few tanks out and my 1:6 toys and dollies out. They are all over the house. I'm really getting used to vehicles in every corner and dollies sitting on every shelf, what's wrong with General Patton sitting next to my Mom's picture and of course a stormtrooper standing next to my mother-in-law's picture. Fiting....

Thanks guys.

The difference is a bit too much for me, too. You wouldn't think it until you actually place a 1:18 next to a 1:16!
