I'm a little undecided on this plane, given that its a remake of the older 109 and I swore I would only purchase one type of each XD plane. Still, this was one of the main German fighters for most of the war and the paintjob on the Herman Graf version looks great! Besides, isn't it supposed to be the most detailed XD plane yet? I think I'll wait to see it in person at my local Hobbytown USA store, since I'm sure they will get it not too long after BCA.

Tman: don't be undecided. While it is a later version of the earlier Me-109E it is virtually a new aircraft. I'm not talking just about the toy, i'm talking about in history.
The redesign of the 109 which began with the 'F' series resulted in a virtually new aircraft, both in appearance and in performance. It was also a mainstay fighter for the Luftwaffe from 1941 onwards. It featured a completely redesigned nose, new engine, modified tail, new canopy, strengthened rear fuselage, redesigned round tip wings and a huge increase in armament, among other things. It is probably the most significant German fighter of WWII.
If you only have room for one 109 than the 'G' is the one to have but in terms of historical importance you should really have an 'E' and a 'G' in your collection.
Not to mention that it will most likely be a vastly superior model/toy to the earlier 'E' which is a first generation XD item, afterall.

Yeah, I was going to say YOU CRAZY BOY?? The G model should be the best 21st plane out so far. The leading edge slats even work! How can you go wrong??

Remake of which one? I haven't seen any G models yet.... only E models...tmanthegreat wrote:I'm a little undecided on this plane, given that its a remake of the older 109 and I swore I would only purchase one type of each XD plane. In case anyone doesn't realize it the picture on BCA's site is not of a model, like we're used to seeing but is of the actual toy that is coming out. You can tell it's not a model by looking at the oversized tail wheel, which is typical of the xd planes, the undercarriage, the absence of a radio mast and d/f loop behing the cockpit etc.
The fact that it is easy to mistake it for a built up model kit at first glance (which i did) shows just how good these puppies are getting.
Lots of nice, interesting repaint opportunites in the F/G series too...i hope when they do F repaints they leave the cannon blisters off of the cowling, as they were only seen on later 'G' models. It's time that 21c started doing some little and easy structural mods to their repaints to make them more physically correct.

Andrew,
Those blisters look mightily easy to pull off! Your wish might very well happen. I think 21st is thinking along those very same lines.....
