What Would Be Cooler For The Ho-229?

Post by pickelhaube » Thu Apr 14, 2016 6:55 am

I may be getting my hands back on a Horten kit ( I never made one for myself before selling off the molds )

I am planning to do something a little different ( when ever I get time    )

I want to either put my Stuka cannons on it or make a night fighter .

Or combine the two.

My idea of a night fighter would be like the Germans did the Me-262 basicly just fit the radio man in behind the pilot.

I know they are kits out there with the a bigger center wing section but realisticly that would not have happened. Too much time would be spent.

So on my version I would stretch the canopy and probably make 2 swing open sections front and back.

I would change out the big clownish tire for something smaller ( production version ? )

And install the front antennas .Then sling on those bad azz cannons.

I am sure Rudel would liked to have bust up some of those T-34 and KV's up at night unless he had done so already.

Or do you think that the cannons would look silly ?

What do you all think ?

A 229 night-fighter would be cool.

I think under wing Stuka cannons as a night fighter might be very cool!

Some great artwork!

Quite sinister looking.

Got to wonder what the drag of the antennae and the weight and drag of the cannon would do to the likley fragile handling characteristics of the design. The antennae array on the 262 dropped something like 40 mph off the top speed. The cannon would have to be dead-on or only very slightly ahead of the CG. I don't think compensating ballast would be a good option What a handful to fly it would be. :o

Neat concept though.

Matthew,
I think STUKa Anti tank guns under the wings of the Horten would be to much "science fiction"
To carry the big guns the Blohm & Voss BV P194 would be a perfect futuristic (paper)plane.
A night fighter horten would look much better without the tank buster guns. My opinion!!

Hmmm.

Wasn't a radar dish a planned upgrade for the ME-262?

This could be very interesting.
