1:18 Marines USMC AH-1W Super Cobra question

Post by cnq » Sat Jun 27, 2015 4:47 pm

I've bought this model recently. However it's got some paint scratches and I would like to do retouch. Does anyone know what green color I could use ?

Mine is similar to this one below:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-18-Ultimate-S ... 3f4e3caa23

Thanks for any info.

Any way I found some green paint in my inventory that's very closely matched to the original green of this model and retouched it using airbrush. It came out not too bad. This is my 1st 1/18 helicopter and quite like it. I got it loose locally for a good price with nothing missing or broken minus the box :D .

Glad you were able to get a 21c SuperCobra cheap and in good shape. It is one of the more rare of the 21c items and they usually command high prices, which is funny as back in 2004/2005, they didn't sell all that well. I've got both the gray "Snake" version and the "camo" version that you have. The cammo one is probably my favorite of the two... Really, the detail on the 21c AH-1W is superb and it was one of the most detailed aircraft that 21c ever made. Funny to think its contemporaries back in 2004 were the FW-190, P-40, and P-47s.

supersonicfifi,

I'd love to try the nose art in the 2nd picture but my airbrush skill is limited.

tmanthegreat,
I'm not really into helicopter but this cobra looks good. I should have bought the "gray snake" version as well when I had the chance.

I still do not have any Cobras .

I passed on them when they were $15 each stacked to the ceiling at Wal Mart .

Now they are fetching around $200 on e-bay .
Kirk Douglas : Mine hit the ground first
John Wayne : Mine was taller

Good job. Now grab a couple of BBI pilots and you're in business.
The Cobra is one of 21C's finest AC IMO. Still holds up 10 years later.

Thanks. The only issue is BBI Apache pilots are pricey on ebay now. I may take out that one pilot and display it without pilots. Or do you guys know where I can get extra pilot for decent price ?

cnq,
if you find 2 BBI helicopter pilots, you will have to cut many slices into the gunner's botom, or it fill not fit well, sitting to high and masking the pilots visor. I had also difficulties to bring the 2 shoes of the gunner in place. But finally, it looks OK. Good luck for hunting these 2 figures.
