Interesting find at Hobby Lobby.

Post by grockwood » Sat Jul 05, 2014 9:56 am

I picked up a Bi winged plane yesterday at Hobby Lobby. It was in their discount isle. Originally $349.00, I paid $34.00 for it. I think it looks pretty good, especially since it is for decorating and not considered a toy or model. This link should take you to an Ebay auction that is selling an identical product.

What a deal!
I've had my eye on their Spad for years, but just couldn't feel comfortable about the $350 or so that it was selling for.

The Spad is cool. Any idea what scale these end up being? I have the Jenny as well and have always wondered.

Checked my local Hobby Lobbys since your posting they still want just over a $100 for them. One manager said that his store would never price them that cheap and said I must have been misled.

Its a store to store thing. I paid $69 for mine but i snagged it anyway since i knew that was a smoking hot deal. I believe the cheapest i have seen them is the eBay link posted above. $190.

It's a neat plane for sure. I didn't get the $35 deal but I did get it for $70. I passed on it at first then went back in and bought it after I thought about the quality. It really is made out of stretched silk and has rubber tires etc. I don't think it's worth the original 300 and some dollar asking price but it is worth $70. It really is over scale, so I probably won't display it with my collection but will use it around the house as a decoration piece.

OK you guys talked me into it. Went and found two of them left. One was priced 75.00 and the other was 70.00. go figure. Picked one up. Nice addition to the collection, thanks! ;-)

For the 31.5 inch wingspan, 1/16 is about right. I think the company, Authentic Models, made some models in multiple scales, like the Fokker Dr.1 and Sopwith Camel.

Sopwith Camel large
Sopwith Camel medium
Sopwith Camel small
