Retro "Alien" Figures

Post by Razor17019 » Fri Feb 14, 2014 11:22 am

Think Geek is offering figures from 1979 movie "Alien" that were never released.
What do you guys think about these? Too toyish? or would you buy them because they are from "Alien"?

I actually have the blue carded (preorder exclusive from Reaction website) and black carded version (regular retail) of this set. I think the whole concept is cool! I'm an old fart so I remember selling newspapers as a ten year old kid just to save enough money to buy my next Kenner Star Wars figure that were all styled like these. The company that makes these (ReAction) partnered up, or was bought by Funko and now they are going to make these style figures for many movie properties including Predator, Terminator and Escape from New York. I'm hooked! :-D

Too toylike for me, Razor.

If I was going to get Alien figures, I would go for something high end. Especially for the creature.

RAZOR17019:

I recommend the NECA Alien and Predator figures which have a lot more detail for the money.
I have the NECA figures from PREDATOR and PREDATOR 2 (two Predators and Schwarzenegger). The detailing and paint job on the figures is incredible.

Those Alien figures are intended to look like retro kenner figures (which is what their prototypes were, so they look like they should ultimately).

There's a whole series now as Funko's come on board, and there are all kinds of properties from old horror, to Escape from New York, to Back to the Future, to Terminator, to the Rocketeer... All in "retro" style sculpting to look like they're from 80's toy lines.

Not fond of some of the humans, but the Rocketeer kind of looks neat.

I think the Alien figures are the best, better than how some of the humans to other lines look. Snake Plisken looks meh. As do the human Terminator figures. I was a little disappointed I guess.

Now Hasbro, make us some Head Sculpt & Endor Uniform variations! The new Rebel Fleet Trooper gets the JJ Seal of Approval Though!

I picked up on the "retro look", JJ.

Very limited market though, for a new release of an old product. Especially given the quality difference between then and now. Not being negative, just an observation.

One of my all time favourite movie lines. Bill Paxton, in Aliens.

You'd be surprised how well they're doing actually... They started out as a kickstarter (the Alien set) which then Funko came on board once the kickstarter did so well and brought in all the other properties... I honestly can't recall all of them, but there's a ton. Even Goonies.

People are gobbling that stuff up... not ME, personally, as I think most of it doesn't look as kenner-ish as it should, but the Alien stuff might eventually get me.

I want The Rocketeer sort of for next to my vintage Boba Fett.

The Predator figures look dismal though. Some of that stuff just doesn't look like I think it should.

I probably have more money than sense because I'm one that's gobbling them up! ;-)
I love Firefly and Escape from New York, and considering nobody will ever make them in 1:18, these are too cool to pass up.
Although, Funko is supposed to be making a 6 inch scale Firefly series of figs and if they look as good as the Game of Thrones figs, I'll be picking those up too! :-D

Hey I say whatever floats your boat... I like the Alien set, but I'm just not feeling the rest yet. Sloth would look pretty cool in the Cantina though, with Chunk. (The cantina only cards droids)

I'm curious to see where they go from here though. Word was they're getting more properties. I'm open to just about anything. The price is probably the only thing that keeps me from buying more, though I may nab some of the female figures simply because female headsculpts aren't all that common or diverse.
