what she likes is how movable it is in tight places
we went to a firepower show and got special tickets to sit in bunker with the TV's and big wigs when different USAF/USN/USA/USM aircraft were doing their thing. she was really impressed with Apache, Cobra, and A-10
the old tanks didn't stand a chance
she has her fixed wing license, but i can see a time when she going to bug me about a helicopter.

The A-10 does have very high agility. It's slow speed gives it a very tight turning radius. This also contributes to it's survivability in combat. An A-10 making a 3.5g 180 degree turn at 320 knots will complete that turn in 16 seconds and the turn will have a radius of 2,700 feet. An F-16 traveling at 600 knots doing the same turn will complete it in 17 seconds with a radius of 3,620 feet. Being fast isn't everything and in Close Air Support, slowness counts.

Here's an article written by John Sponauer on the A-10's operations between the Gulf Wars. Mainly the Balkans. It's a testament to the flexibility the A-10 has and how it can perform roles that as the author states, "their designers couldn't have possibly forseen as they were developing the jet." CSAR, CAS, and AFAC are just a few of the many jobs that the A-10 has been handed during it's combat service.

The A-10A is being upgraded into an A-10C. This article gives some background on what the changes mean and how they are making the A-10 even more effective in combat.

Here's a Question and Answer article done with Vietnam Veteran Andy Bush who transitioned from the F-4 to the A-10. He tells about his time flying the A-10. Good reading:

Here's a cool centerpiece for your next party. All we need now is a 1/18 A-10 to go with it. Both would be superb conversation pieces...
