Possible 1/18th Hind !!
Another forum member suggested that I could use this r/c helo as a base for a Hind.
That way I would only have to make the cockpit and other needed parts to bring it up to XD par.
The shell is reported to be right at 1/19 scale. So it should be somewhat easier ( with fingers crossed ) to slice and dice it down to 1/18th scale.
What do you all think of that ?
Check the link out only $79 !!!!
If nothing was on my plate I would be all over this

aferguson edit: hijacking your thread a bit PH, turned it into a poll to gauge relative interest. Only vote if you're seriously interested in getting a Hind one of the two ways.
I forget my math .
IT IS SMALLER THAN 18TH. SO IF THE MODLER WOULD WANT , HE COULD MAKE IT BIGGER OR KEEP IT AS IS.

Re: Gimme That , Gimmie That Hind
They say in the comment under the pic that this version is somewhat bigger. Would be the previous version closer to 1/18?
In an other sense, in the pair of MIL MI-24 I saw a few years ago (impressive noise when they flew away!), 8 soldiers found place in the cabin/cargo room, and from outside, it was difficult to believe that the gunner has a lot of place for his legs. How woud it be in 1:18 scale with our BBI, 21st or FOV figs? An ambitious challenge for sure, so it may be easier in an overscaled model...

Re: Gimme That , Gimmie That Hind
i don't think it's as small as 1/19.5. I think it's right around 1/19. It's 35 inches in length and quite scale looking. The only problem is it has no rotors, weapons, cockpit interior etc. The u/c in the pic costs extra and is not very scale looking.
so my idea was that PH make detail kits for it and people buy the fuselage, PH's kits and put together what should be a nice looking Hind and only a tad small. With nothing to compare it too, it will be hard to say it's underscale.
the alternative is to wait for PH to do a full buld kit which may be forever and will probably be very expensive.
perhaps turning this thread into a poll will be the way to go.

Re: Gimme That , Gimmie That Hind
Considering BBI had a 1:18 mock up, and Merit staying around
BBIs modeling, I'm speculating a real one coming out down the road.
I'd gladly pay upwards of 300$ for a1:18 Hind.
Along with a F35, F22 or F-15.
Just want something new for modern war.

i dunno. I'd like to think so but it's a big step from repaints with simple tooling tweeks to a full blown new big 1/18 helicopter. i have my doubts.
I asked a few days ago how the black bbi mh-60 blackhawk repaint was selling but didn't get an answer. when it was announced, most thought it was going to bomb, given its high price tag.

I vote for waiting for a full build, it may never happen, but I would rather have a kit all by Pickel.

It would be poor for them to judge a new mold, on a mold that's been out twice previously for half the price.aferguson wrote:i dunno. I'd like to think so but it's a big step from repaints with simple tooling tweeks to a full blown new big 1/18 helicopter. i have my doubts.

I'm not gonna pay twice the price for a third repaint of an old mold.
If they want me to shell out some money for a whole new bird, it doesn't seem illogical.
If I have a Black hawk, and a Pave hawk, that I picked up for 60$ originally, and they want me to throw down another 100$ for a simple repaint, with a few variances.. that just isn't logical for me.
give me a new Heli, that i don't have, and you have a 300$ range, just like with tomcat, only hopefully no problems.

Possible 1/18th Hind !!!
I think when I pull in some more money ( if I ever get done with the last Horten builds )
I will get the Hind in question and see what I can do with it.
Unless somebody wants to get it for me .
For the cause

It isn't selling well, but neither are the jets. I see signs of the recession returning (which I expected) so that may be playing some role in this. We'll see how these do through Christmas. I don't know if what BBI is asking for these (wholesale-wise) is reasonable relative to their costs, but they are certainly exploring the very upper end of what they can get away with, if even that.aferguson wrote:I asked a few days ago how the black bbi mh-60 blackhawk repaint was selling but didn't get an answer. when it was announced, most thought it was going to bomb, given its high price tag.
They released that 1:6 scale figure recently and the wholesale price on that was substantially higher than anything Soldier Story or Toys City is doing for similar or even better products, judging from that BBI may be pushing their margins beyond what the marketplace can handle?

Re: Possible 1/18th Hind !!
i've been following the world's economic situation in some detail for quite a while now. I find it very interesting. And viirtually all the leading indicators are pointing to a global recession coming. Trailing indicators are still not bad and many tend to focus on them (ie what has happened versus what is going to happen). I doubt a coming recession is playing a part in the current slow BBI sales, though. It will but not yet. The previous recession may be still playing a role though, with still high unemployment and worse, under employment prevelant.
I think BBI sales are slow because, well, they've always been slow. Even in the hay days of 1/18 the Black Hawk and F-18's and 16's didn't sell all that great. And now they're double the price.

Talk about changing the subject and becoming a joy kill.
I guess the oncoming world resession wil put the wooden stake in the heart of this pontencial Hind project.

If the Hind doesn't come to, would you consider some other Soviet military hardware?

I think I'm alone on this, but I would love a T-72 or BMP with a few VDV to match.pickelhaube wrote:B17Fortress wrote:If the Hind doesn't come to, would you consider some other Soviet military hardware?

Well I tell you. I will do the Su-85 to go with my T-34 trifecta.
But is I were to do another full build Ruskie armor I would think the Kv-2 or T-55
The little Russian scout car I would like to do also.
But the Hind is something I have wanted to do for years !!

Re: Possible 1/18th Hind !!
I am trying to gain more info on the helo Hind shell.
I took this pic out of the helo forum. I am not sure if this detail is on the shell or not.
If so this is something that I can work with !!!!

Re: Possible 1/18th Hind !!
Boy was I mistaken.
The Hind kit in the pic is over $550 .
Unlike our potential $79.99 wonder.
Still trying to find out what scale it is .

Re: Possible 1/18th Hind !!
probably at least 1/16 if not bigger. There are a couple of large r/c Hind kits around, on top of the $80 i pointed out.
