M24 chaffee?

Post by flyboy_fx » Fri Sep 21, 2012 12:19 pm

So, I was thinking. Can a M24 chaffee be build from a walker bulldog? They look like they use the same tracks and roadwheels. The chaffees road wheels just seem to be closer together.

you can but it will be way too big. I investigated doing it but the WB was a much larger tank than the Chaffee. About 15% larger iirc, which is more than the difference between 1/18 and 1/16.

Looking at Normandy's pics the running gear looks o be the same. The tracks are not.One of them looks like it has the Sherman type tracks the other , not.

The bodies are some what similar ( an easy fix )

The turrets look really different ( but doable )

So my assessment for what it's worth , a semi easy custom if you are willing to live with the wrong tracks.

I am not sure if the bulldog have the Sherman tracks or vice versa.

Looks like the Chaffe has the Sherman type tracks , but does the 1:1 ( in the pics ) have the correct tracks? I thought that they were different in a production Chaffe.

What do I know?
Kirk Douglas : Mine hit the ground first
John Wayne : Mine was taller

M24 of WWII vintage used a metal track. Later version used a rubber blocked track with a chevron that does look a little like the Sherman's track. But Sherman tracks unlike the M24 and M41, don't have the center guide horn that run between the the inside and outside wheels. The Easy Eight Sherman tracks do have the center guide. but are wider. Even if the suspension parts are usable, there would be a lot of cutting required to reduce a M41 down to a M24'is size. It would be easier to build your own hull and turret from scratch.

I've found it very helpful when doing custom work or just
wanting to see what a particular part looks like.

There's a BIG size difference there the bulldog is basically a M-48 as to the M-24 it's no bigger than a Sherman.
A helicopter does not want to fly, it just vibrates so much that the ground rejects it

One of our guys collecting 1/32 should be able to show us a comparison shot. I'm sure 21C made a 1/32 M-24????

Yes, I have a 21st Century 1/32 M24 Chaffee. I bet the new FOV 1/32 Chaffee is better.
