Mathew,
Your Ho-229 Is Top Shelf Work, Mega Impressive, I Know You Slaved Through Untold Buckets Of Shit To Get It Done, But your finish Product Is a Stand Alone Custom That could hold it's own against any Manufactured Aircraft to Date, Great Work, Great Custom,

Re: 1/18 Ho-229 PreOrder Till Oct 31 ! RTV is Here! Paymen
What do you guys think of this color rendition ?
I was thinking of using it but with my " standard " pattern.
Normandy posted it way back when into the bowels of this project.

Re: 1/18 Ho-229 Project Build
Wow I like that one....
I do like this image, camo colors and pattern are cool.
The background / landscape gave me an idea for a
forced perspective diorama....and I'm still working on it.
Pickel, what series 229 are you up to, would this be 3?
This has got to be the best 1:18 aircraft I have in my collection, both of them.

Think that is a pretty killer scheme, Matthew.
You can't go wrong doing this one.

Re: 1/18 Ho-229 Project Build
OK Guys,
I have made a executive decision on the Horten.
It is officially retired.
The moulds are OK but just a little worn. It takes a terribly long time to make the kits.
It also takes WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too long to do the full builds.
Everything else suffers. If I did not have the last 2 full builds to do I would have started on the King Tiger by now.
I may make one or two more ( I would like a couple for my personal collection ).
If I do sell more they are going to be at a more of an inflated price.
Probably higher than most will be willing to pay so I made the choice of shutting the Horten down.
Thanks to you guys who participated in such a unique project !!

No night fighter then? at least in the foreseeable future? Is it possible you could make a mod kit that could be used to transform one of your single seat kits??

Re: 1/18 Ho-229 Project Build ( Retired ) !!
Sorry to hear this is going away, but its completely understandable. Hopefully you will keep the moulds. I always worry about something significant breaking on it and it would be good to know Pickelhaube is available for backup emergency repair/replacement...
Still, very glad I got one early on! It has a new home now, hanging on the ceiling in my new "mancave" (now paired in flight with a 21c ME-262 and 21c P-51) and looks fantastic. The plane seems almost unrealistic, both as an actual aircraft and as a large scale model plane.
Thank you very much for all the hard work on this project, Pickelhaube

My Horton is displayed in my office at my design studio. Puts a smile on my face whenever I glance at it. Thanks for making such a cool and unique piece of 1:18 scale awesomeness!

Re: 1/18 Ho-229 Project Build ( Retired ) !!
Thank you Matthew.
I know this project has taken a lot out of you, and can understand why you are retiring it.
I was fortunate to get one of the first 23, and it is one of the favourite models in my collection, bar none. Have five of TKO's wonderful customs as well, so I am one lucky guy.
A wonderful model, and it certainly made an impact in the 1/18 world.
Shame to see it come to an end, but Matthew knows what he is doing, and it will live on.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
Sorry but I do not have an extra one.
Last week I decide to retire the Horten. From start to finish the Horten was a tedious project.
Now with my real job stepping up ( for now ) It will be extremely difficult to get a Horten kit out in a timely matter.
In addition I have been trying to finish 2 Horten full builds for about 2 months now.
Because of those 2 months being occupied by the LAST 2 Hortens , my NEW King Tiger project has been backed off.
It just takes so much time to make the Horten kit.
I just hope it does not happen to the King T project.
Re: 1/18 Ho-229 Project Build ( Retired ) !!
What was initial the price for thoses Ho 229?.. Too bad i am a little bit late to this forum
Re: 1/18 Ho-229 Project Build ( Retired ) !!
Matthew had a couple options for folks. A full build, finished and painted version and a Kit form version. I twisted his arm and he kindly agreed to do a full build, non painted version for myself and I think one other member.
I don't recall the asking price of either option but I do know that it was not enough to compensate Matthew for his hard work, the time required to make them, and the expensive materials that went into it. I think in the end I threw Matthew an extra hundred bones or so for pain and suffering.
Just painting these customs up right takes a lot of time and even money with expensive paints... Just glad I didn't have to make the darn thing! A fellow member was at my house the other night and he got to see my 229 for the first time. I'm certain he was impressed! It really is a very striking piece!
Makes me wish I had actually pulled the trigger to get a second. Fortunate to have one at least!

Re: 1/18 Ho-229 Project Build ( Retired ) !!
If anybody is interested I have someone who is interested in buying the Horten project.
He wants the original prototype as well as the moulds.
He wants to continue with production.
He will be coming to New Orleans to look things over in a week or so .
I am not sure if this will become a reality time will tell.
He has not offered any money but if he does indeed come down we should be able to hash things out.
So I guess this is good news for the Horten.
I sold one on E-bay ( a full build ) for the full double price in a matter of hours after posting and I had a lot of interest. But by not having the time to make anymore. I decided to retire it.
So maybe new life will back into this old ' Wonder Weapon "
By the way I just purchased a few books ( at a discounted rate ) about the He-162 and the Natter .
Of the 2 the Natter looks to be of VERY simple construction and did you guys know that steps were taken close to the end of the war utilizing a single pine tree as a launch platform ?
Getting away from the complex launching tower ?
That way they could be set up almost anywhere in relatively a short time using very little resources.
Hmmmmm........

Pickel, that's very interesting. Maybe one day we'll see the Ho-229 in kit form. I'd be up for a few more.
I like the idea of the Natter, that would be another great 1:18 piece!

That is good news, Matthew.
Even though you have retired the Horten, looks like it will live on. Hopefully the new owner can do it the same justice that you did.
And with you getting the price you did on Ebay, shows there is interest in this build still.
