Does this resemble an actual scout vehicle?

Post by Jay » Sun Jul 29, 2012 12:36 am

This has come up on a local auction site. It's cheap enough, but does anyone recogize it as resembling any real life scout vehicle?

that's made by Chap Mei.

It most resembles an immediate post war Daimler Ferret or Fox.......can't remember which.

It kinda looks like a wwii daimler mk 1 or 2 and is actually the right size in 1/18 too. I have one that i plan to fix up a bit and repaint as a wwii daimler armored car. Fenders are the wrong shape, other details are off but it does have the overall look of a WWII daimler.

That's awesome! I would love to have one of those.

Could be a Humber Scout Car, most popular Brit armored car in WW2 or a Fox, a Canadian armored car, also WW2 vintage.

A Ferret is similar but lacks any armament bigger than a small turret with twin .30cal machine guns. The Fox had a turret with a .50cal and a .30cal machine guns during WW2. The Humber had a 37mm gun like your toy but only the Ferret mounted a spare tire midships on the side like the toy. I've been in a Ferret with its Royce Rolls engine and really weird transmission. You press in the clutch, shift gears, and the gear engages a half block later. I refused to drive it in a parade and only was the gunner.... but I regress.

After WW2 the Fox was upguned to bigger light cannons into the 60's.

If the size is good for 1/18, it is nice as an addition to our Brit vehicles....... wait.... do we have any Brit 1/18?

it's way too small for a Humber, unfortunately. It's about 8 inches long...perfect for a 1/18 Daimler but about 1/24 scale for a Humber. The fenders look more Humber like than Daimler, though.

There's also a French post war armoured car it looks like but i can't remember the name.

Ok cool. So a few options for a possible conversion.
Still trying to figure out inside my own head, if it's too toy like. The auction still has a day to go....

Too many differences to be a Staghound. Turret is very different. fenders are bigger and not as round, gun on Staghound is smaller, entire Staghound is bigger than this car.

Good suggestion though. :?
